COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imogene, Iowa, is quintessential Iowa — a tiny town founded by an Irish immigrant group to support a patchwork of farms that surrounded it. Our Imogene Red is a tribute to the thousands of small towns that dot Iowa. It was created by head brewer John Martin in memory of his grandmother, Frances Jane Dempsey Martin, who died in November 2012 after living all 98 of her years in and around Imogene. Made with English Maris Otter two-row malt, English East Kent Golding hops, and Irish ale yeast, Imogene Red has the color, clarity, aroma and flavor of a classic Irish ale. Irish reds are a smooth favorite for malty beer fans. Raise a pint in memory of Grandma Martin and in tribute to small-town Iowa.

Sampled at Clockwork’s 4K/5K/10K gathering 2013. Growler courtesy of John. Pours a light amber body with thin white lacing. Aroma is light malt, but overall pretty plain. Mouthfeel is thin with notes of sweet malt, faint fruit and light grain. Meh.

Had this on draft at Confluence Brewery in Des Moines. Sweet and tart taste for a red. Dark with white head. A little too sweet for me but not hard to drink

Growler at James’s 4k/5k/10k tasting. Pours a clear ruby tinged brown amber with a thin white head. Grainy and malty on the nose, sweet with light toast. Medium bodied, malt and a bit of grain. A touch sweet, malty. Finishes up with some bitterness on the finish.

Tap at brewpub. Deep copper tinted red and brown brew. A medium khaki head. Sweet malty walnut nose with some apples. Some citrus notes. The taste has peanuts and caramel. Toast and sweet cereal. Nicely done.
