Formally contract brewed by Brakspear. Currently contract brewed at Hepworth for Beer Counter, under the supervision of Peter Scholey, former Brakspear head brewer.
The ingredients and abv are different to the CAMRA Supreme Champion cask ale which continues to be brewed by Coniston.
Ingredients: Maris Otter and crystal malt; Challenger hops - mainly at the end of the boil.

BLUEBIRD is a fine session ale with a light golden colour. The intense resinous and spicy hop character which is the beerís hallmark is derived from the use of unusual quantities of English Challenger hops, each bale being individually and personally selected by the brewer. The malt is, of course, Maris Otter fermented slightly warm to give a soft fruitiness with a faint hint of scented geranium.

This is a really tasty full lakeland beer. Tends to be the more popular of the cinisyon brews. I would heartily recommend this ale.

Pours a clear copper color with an off white head that settles to a constant film. Aroma of bread crust, slight malt sweetness and floral scents. Taste has some biscuit malt with a prevalent smooth spiciness that calls to mind white pepper. A touch of orange rind bitterness and some minerality round out the flavors. Light bodied with medium/high carbonation. Very enjoyable and easy to drink. An excellent session ale that leans more on the hops than other English beers of this style, and for the better. I liked it very much.

Over carbonated! But "bottle conditioned" removed from label. Slight vinegar taste. Golden color.

Pours a cloudy caramel color with an eggshell frothy white head that takes its time to dissipate and laces the glass well. Aroma is yeasty caramel with a very faint orange blossom, jasmine. Feels thick on the mouth with a very soft creamy carbonation - very near nitro. A slightly sour wateriness at first that comes around almost immediately to malt. Some very very very faint cherry spice near the end and a clean finish with just a small touch of bitterness on the tongue. I keep coming back to a faint lemon tea. Itís good, but its not as flavorful as its mouthfeel suggests. I keep wanting a bit more flavor, and that seems like it might be intentional. With the soft carbonation and light flavor I could certainly settle into a few of these, but probably only if all other options were limited.

11.2oz bottle - Mostly clear and a color somewhere between yellow and amber with a thin off white head. Pleasant aroma of bready fruit cake and subtle hop intertwined. Flavors of hearty bread, crisp hop, hint of fruit and herbs. Slightly watery.

Pours pale amber. Small amount of particulate matter, but otherwise clear. Big tan head dissipates quickly. Aroma is jammy and a tad soapy. Medium body. Metalic finish. Hmm.

Enjoyed from pint bottle into stange glass at Reeds American Table in Maplewood. It poured a clear golden amber with off-white foam, lasting with a little lace. Grainy, nice biscuity English base malt, nutty, bready. Fine English hops balance too: orange marmalade, subtle black pepper, earth, wood, perfume. This beer is exactly what Challenger hops taste like. Mildly fruity ale yeast esters, faintly spicy phenols, but all in a mellow, supportive way. Excellent, true-to-style English bitter, which is to say DELICIOUS, possibly the most authentic available in the US. It also showcases the similarities between English and Belgian table beer. Light-medium body, low carbonation, light malty aftertaste but not exactly sweetness, as it finished with a bone-dry snap. Canít wait for my next pint.

Dark orange, with a light amber hue. Off-white head, lacey retention. Floral, piney, Pilsner type flowery nose. Richer pale malt, no caramel, roast, chocolate. Prune-type, fig cookie, pleasant nose. Hint of toffee on the palate with a pilsner type, resiny (no way AM IPA type) finish. Dry, herbal. Medium carbonation, enough to feel sudsy on the edges but no bite. Big, juicy herbal/earthy aftertaste. Drier body, thin, almost taste cardboard (put not off-putting). Mild drinking, light hop (surprised Iím picking it up).
