First tasted this in Coanes, Johnstone in August 1997. Cask, handpump dispense. Crystal clear pale amber in colour with a thin white head. Slight prickle of hop resin in the short aroma. Thin mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malt gives a digestive biscuit base with faint notes of soft butterscotch and roast grain. Dusty hop resins impart a bitter aftertaste. Finish is bitter sweet. A plain and simple bitter.

Cask @ Bishops Arms Gustav, Malmö. Pours a clear pale amber color with a small white head. Has a fruity malty hoppy caramel aroma. Fruity malty weak hoppy flavor. Has a fruity malty caramel finish with hoppy hints in the aftertaste.

Cask at TND: Aroma of grain, water, hops, and rotten eggs. Poured amber/gold in color with a large, creamy, dense, off-white head that lasted throughout. Clear. Not sparkling. Excellent laving. Flavor is slightly sweet and a touch bitter. Tastes of grain, slight malt, slight hops, and some biscuity/bready notes. Light to medium body. Thin, then dry texture. Cask carbonation. Slightly sweet, a touch bitter, malt, hop, bread finish is dry.

Cask at Paradiso Dupont. Why the hell is this beer always on tap at Pizzeria Paradiso? Finally I had to try it because it’s been bugging the crap out of me. The pour is much better than expected: a hazy, glowing light orange is topped by a massive Dole whip of a yellow, pineapple custard cask head. Peach and pear in the aroma with a nice hint of apple cider vinegar so you don’t get your hopes up. Taste is light, fluffy, fruity, dry, suddy, and light bodied. Dried apricot and pear come through. Watery palate. Much better than I expected. No diacetyl!

Reviewed from notes. On cask at Rustico - Alexandria. Pours a moderate golden-yellow color with a bit of light haze. White head with a bit of lacing. Nose brings some light floral and citrus hops as well as mild bread. A bit of butter. Taste brings hints of diacetyl again with a slight amount of light hops. Feel is creamy without much of any bitterness or sweetness. Overall, fairly plain with a few off flavors. Nothing really major wrong with it, but it really didn’t bring all that much to the table. Golden with a thick creamy head. Mild hop aroma. Sweetish character, vague biscuity malt. Really not getting the 36 IBUs at all. Vague minerals in the finish, but that finish is still sweet caramel and hint of biscuity malt.

Cask @ Black Bull, Coniston. Clear amber-copper with a sparkler head. Aroma is tired. Stale hop and wet wood predominate. Soft palate. Not hugely flavorful or as well-developed as I expected. Has a nice dryness, though, and is easy to drink.

Cask. The Angel, Bowness. Thick white head, clear dark gold body. Hoppy, tangy, juicy hops and biscuit. Long astringent finish.

Cask (@King’s Arms, Hawkshead): Golden, creamy small head, that sticks prettily to the glass; distinctive hoppy nose with a certain fruitiness; distinctive dry bitter flavour, light bodied; mild - lingering - bitter-hoppy finish, balanced by a little sweetness in the very end. Good stuff....
