COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottled.
Oats are used in the grist of this beer to give body and smoothness, enhancing the roasted barley, giving it complex flavours reminiscent of dark chocolate and coffee. This is balanced by a fresh hop bitterness and dry silky finish.

Tap at RJ. Aroma dark fruits, berries, light sourish soapy, very light chocolate. Thick stable beige head. Dark clear ruby-brown colour. Taste is rather sweet, chocolate and pretty strong fruitiness. Some background bitterness, but what ruins it for me is moderately strong sour off-flavour. Could it be too much roasted malt too early in the mash? Not sure, but the result is average at best.

Tapped at hostinec Richtar Jakub in Bratislava/Slovakia. Nice roasted malt aroma mixed with dark chocolate. A bit wattery for my taste. The taste is of dark chocolate and roasted malt with a wattery bitter finish. Too bad the light body of this beer, it destroys the overall experience.

Rather tasty. Pours deep brown/black with large light beige head. Aroma is if dark grains, plenty of roast and toast. Lightly carbonated in tongue, first impressions are dark coffee grounds and a hint of bitter chocolate. This gives way into a smoother rounder espresso taste with a bit of liquorice. Hops come to the fore with quite a hit of bitterness, perhaps a bit if dark fruit too.

Bottle 0.5l from local market. BBF 28 04 14. Colour is black with small slightly brownish white head. Aromas and flavours: Chocolate, coffee, fruits, some hops and roasted malts. Quite thin and watery but enjoyable.

Bottle and served in my Old Raspy nonic pint glass: Pours a deep brown with a fading tan head and not much lace. The aroma has notes of chocolate, oatmeal, roast, bread, fig, and some grassy noble hops (thinking Fuggles but not sure). The taste is actually pretty roasty and coffee like, less sweeter than expected. Solid cacao and deep fruit notes. Finished with a fair amount of bitterness. The mouth feel is far too thin for the genre and ashy. It is quaffable but that is all... needs a richer mouthfeel and more pronounced oat character. I see now why it is listed as just a stout and not a sweet stout when most Oatmeal Stouts are.

Like all Coniston beers I have had... this would likely be far better on live cask / handpull than in a bottle

500ml bottle (shared by FatPhil, thanks). Dark brown color, with red hue. Small off-white head, stays. Sour, very faint roast, orange peels in aroma. Smoky, roasted, grainy, hint of licorice in flavor. Unfortunately way too watery.
