2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Cask at The Market Tavern, Durham, £3.65/pint.
Dark, ruby-brown beer with a small but frothy off-white head. The aroma is led by biscuity malts but also has a slightly unpleasant acidic tinge that carries through into the taste too. There are also some smoky burnt treacle and sultana flavours. A little rough around the edges. Not great.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pint at the Schooner Gateshead. Lovely looking beer: rich ruby red with a dense white head. Fruity aroma, raisins, red fruit and toffee flavour. Medium carbonation, clean palate. Pulls off a great trick of balancing smokiness and fruitness.

On cask at Centurion, Newcastle. Pours dark ruby red with a thin white head. Strong berry hints, with a hop finish. Very good red beer but it does have a funny aftertaste, stewed berry tea?
