UPDATED: JAN 19, 2005 Am I truly the first one to rate this? Oh ye cruel gods! Foxy-brown, hazy, yeast in suspension. Very thick head, nearly gushing. Nose of apples, lactic acid, ironoxide, horsey. Taste is yeasty, ironoxide, lactic acid, lemony & barnyard aroma’s. Sample a bit aged (2 yrs.), hence some oxidized, ’biscuit’ tones. Extremely refreshing, medium bodied. "Martzen" is a stronger, bottle-conditioned version ot the year-round ’Tonneke’. Brewed with the March water, which, according to the brewer, is ’in bloom’.One of Belgium most complex, most underrated, and least-known classics. One of my absolute all-time favourites. One of Belgium’s big losses to come in the near future. DRINK THIS! Incidentally this brewery has also one of Belgiums’ best artisanal pilseners. <P> Re rating Above was for the predecessor; known as "Maartse" or "Märzen". More than just the name and the ABV changed. The following is for the Mars Especial, which is no longer a Flemish brown, but another Belgian ale. </P> <P>Colour: Golden -amber beer; thick, dissipating head. 4/5 Nose: with ambrée and crystal malts, cookies. 7/10 Taste is very young, like concentrated vegetable matter, as from insect secretion. Rather moderate acidity with faint lactic touch. 7/10 Medium bodied at best. Slight burning sensation 3/5 regrettably much less distinctive than the original. But no doubt produced following more "learned" and "Eu-approved" methods. O tempora, o mores. 14/20 </P>

Smakerna ligger kvar länge på tungan, lagom syrlig och fyllig med mycket smak. Gott.

(33cl bottle, BB 12/01/12) Pours a clear golden body with a medium off-white head. Aroma of pear, peach, yeast, minerals, and nuts. Flavor of minerals, yeast, banana, citrus, grass, and caramel.

bottle thanks to bu11zeye. deep gold pour with a white head. nose is sticky caramel, light fruits, rather sweet. thin on the palate, overly sweet, caramel, and toffee?

Orange coloured beer, ok head. Smell of fruits with a herbal boost to it. The taste is sweet bitterness, slight dry earthy, fruity. Nothing to get excited.

100 Belgians to try before you die? Really?? Pours a nice Medium golden yellow color. Minimal fizzy white head, lasted maybe a minute or two. Aromas of light spices, a touch of brown sugar.

Hazy, dark yellowish colour. Smells sweet, fruity, yeasty and abricots. Tastes accordingly. Mouthfeel is okay, but it’s slightly too heavy on the carbo.

Hazy dark yellow to orange color, small head. Sour, acidic aroma, with berries. Taste light sour, berries and other red fruit. Firm carbo, ok body.

Hefig-malziger Antrunk, auch die Fruchtigkeit ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil. Die Malzigkeit wird im Mittelteil etwas stärker, das Bier bleibt aber einigermaßen spritzig. Ein leicht saurer Ton meldet sich und ist auch im Nachgeschmack noch zu erkennen, er nimmt aber nur eine geringe Rolle ein. Würzig-malziger Nachgeschmack. bottle from beerplanet.eu golden caramelly brown, smooth offwhite head. aroma is very nice yeasty, orange, lemon, orange peel. Yellow fruity, belgian aroma. Aroma have a nice balance between fruity and bitter notes. falvor is fruity, orange, peach,mild spicy bitterness, belgian yeast. malts. tasty.
