pivo (2660) - GERMANY - NOV 4, 2005
Grassy, yeasty nose with aromas of cracked grains. Hazy orange color with a tight clingy white head. Thin orange tasting malt body, some apricot. Bitter end - actually very bitter - from hops (and yeast) creating a nice spicy effect. Enjoyable, but a little too thin maybe.

A Mes rate: 33cl bottle at Lowlander. Spruce and evergreen aroma. Cloudy golden body with an excellent head and lashings of lace. Quite citric in the flavour and especially in the finish which eventually becomes spicy and floral.

Bottle at Plan B, RBESG, August 2005. Dark gold, tending towards orange in colour. Yeasty and fruity ester aroma. Maybe acidic, unripe apples. More lemony on the palate. Quite zippy and zesty, but some sweetness as well. Touches of spice. Some sappy hops jostle their way into the picture and make their presence felt, although quite subtly. Slightly earthy mouthfeel. Dries out on the finish. Drinks very easily. No complaints from me.

330ml bottle (Mallaskukko, Turku) Light orange, little head. Huge ginger and sweet hoppy aroma. Taste is disappointing initially - a bit alcoholic, but mellows later. Leaves hops, which is nice.

330 ml bottle. Fruity aroma with citrus, pear, honey, golden malts, and a bit of spice. Deep orange-gold with lots of little floaties and a low, lacy head. Sweet, malty flavor, honey, lemon, sweet bread, pears and peaches; quite yeasty, thick and heavy, oily palate, slight hop botterness in the finish but I would appreciate much more. ok, but rather boring and gutless.

Carefully poured, this beer is golden orange w/ quite a bit of haze and some particulates. The head is fully and white and leaves behind little splotches of lace. Nose is quite nutty--lots of almond extract esp.--w/ a slight tartness and a bit of citrus character. The taste is not far from that w/ a bit of earthy bitterness to finish things out. Lightly sweet and medium bodied w/ strong, prickly carbonation, this is a beer w/ some weight but one that still retains a good deal of drinkability. This is a pretty tasty Belgian and one I won’t mind trying again.

Pours slightly orange with a thick white head and some suspended sediment. Aroma is a little Funky with lots of orange and banana. Tastes nice. Some vanilla and candy. Slightly spicy and citrus. Not bad at all. Pretty middle of the road Belgian blonde.

No head but rim over pale copperish coloured beer. Fresh pale & toasted malts, nice aroma enlived by fine aromahops. Also some grain and/or grass. Toasted, waffles gone too long, gardenherbs in the flavour. Well-carbonated, medium bodied. Absolutely like the nose. If the rest had been up to that standard...

More orange than blond, end totally flunky; good yellowish head, slowly retreating. Nose is lactic, roasted cookies, even some butterscotch... finishes citrussy. Quite bitter initial taste, not hoppy, but citrus-zeste like. Gets sweeter afterwards, without ever becoming really malty. In the end, there’s even a whiff of aroma-hops. Finish is very good & balanced. Medium bodied, slight creaminess; finish feels, as said under ’taste’, just right, as if enriched with freshly pressed fruit juice. It’s more than OK. When the "Mars Especial" came to supplant the old "Maartse", I was less than happy. This first fully new post-Willy C. beer, promesses, however.
