29/IX/2012 - 33cl bottle @ Contreras brewery (Gavere) with the Gentse Biervereniging - BB: 9/VIII/14 (2012-1091)

Clear blond beer, big creamy white head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: lots of grains, hay, stable, bit herbal, hops, somewhat metallic, yeasty. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit fruity, lots of yeast, citrus, some grapefruit, bit malty, grains, little sour touch. Aftertaste: bitter, herbal, bit fruity, yeast, some citrus. Probably a bit too young.

330ml bottle pours a golden color with a massive white head that retains well and leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is light fruit with yeasty notes and spice. Taste is fruity sweet with a spicy hop bitterness and yeasty dry finish. A nicely done Belgian ale which was quite tasty and pleasing on the palate.

11.2oz bottle in a Trappist glass. Pours golden with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of spicy yeast, light caramel malts, and some floral hops. Flavor the same. Average texture. A little light on the flavor compared to most Tripels.

Bottle:   Pale golden, hazy, fine bits of sediment float about, moderate white head, fairly nice lacing.   Bright bready aroma, slight floral and alcohol notes.   Breadiness on the tongue isnt too mealy or heavy, thankfully.   A bit spritzy on the tongue.   Backside is a little rough.   Not too smooth.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, albeit spritzy.   Husky finish, a little cat urine (odd), and astringent floral and citrus peel.   Luckily its not too strong, but its there.   I am just happy its not mealy.

bottle, golden colour with foamy, stable and lacing white head. Smell: some fruity notes, yeasty. Taste: the alcohol is very well hidden (I expected some 6,5 abv, but 8,5, I couldn’t believe!), fruity notes, yeasty notes. Decent, but not that special. the Valeir Extra is more my style.

On-tap between Christmas 2011 and New Year in the Delirium Bar (upstairs tap room), Brussels. Pours a murky golden yellow with a thin white head that isn’t worth talking about: it had gone by the time I’d walked back to my seat and picked up my pen to take notes. The nose was regular Belgian, in a good way: yeasty, malty and hoppy all in one smell, not easy but some Belgian beers just do it right. The taste was an amalgamation of loveliness in a glass: all the flavours a good beer should have were here in abundance, like the smell they were all bundled up into a single taste and just seemed right. What a pity about the head!
