COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
During the British Colonial Times, the English exported beer to India. To preserve the beer for a longer period, extra-hopped beers were produced (hops maintain natural preservation and add bitterness to the beer).

2010-08-10. Hazy pastel yellow-orange, good sized foamy white head fades leaving a nice lace on the glass. 3+ Flavour is pleasantly hoppy, notes of sweet citrus and tropical fruit, mild alcohol throughout. 7+ Aroma of tropical fruit , alcohol, and touch of what I think is acetone? Notes of waffle are presumably imagined, or drifting in from outside,... right? Something that reminds me of flavoured childrens medication makes ephemeral appearances and is distracting. 6+ Average palate. Pretty decent. On tap at CML Fontainas, Brussels

Pours a cloudy light amber/golden with a decent sized cream colored head that stays for awhile and produces nice lacing. Aroma is complex with grapefruit, passion fruit, pinapple, light malt and an undertone of Belgian yeast. Very light sweetness with medium to heavy bitterness, short dry finish. Medium bodied, creamy texture, lively carbonation. Of all of the Belgian IPA’s I have had so far this one is by far my favorite.

Pours a little cloudy blond beer with a fine laced head. A lot of carbon is present in the glass. Smells like passion fruits and pineapple. Tastes very soft, fruity, spices. In the aftertaste again some fruityness and hops. Very complex and well balanced beer.

Not bad, decent, but nothing so remarkable. Poured with a large, foamy, frothy, thick, off white head after an aggresive pour, that mostly settled down, and a bit of lace. Color is a hazy amber with a few chunks of sediment floating around. Aroma is yeasty, malt, spice, and little straw. Flavor is like aroma. Body is good with very good carbonation. Finish is like flavor and short with a bit of alcohol at the end. Easy drinking beer.

Bottle sample at Mondiale 2010, Day Two. Light brown body, hoppy taste. Not spicy like a saison.

In short: A refreshing barnyard fruity Saison. Typical competent Saison.
How: Tap at Moeder Lambic Fontainas
The look: Cloud dark yellow body topped by a large white head
In long: Nose is tropical fruits and barnyard. Body is smooth and fluffy. Taste is very yeasty, tropical fruits, barnyard, citrus fruits. Very refreshing. I had it after their Mars Especial which is a totally different beer than what it was a few years ago. Funnily the Especial Mars (officially not a Saison) felt more like an authentic Saison than the Valeir Extra. Saison, my favourite beer style, the difficult realization that something other than myself is worth caring about.
