During the British Colonial Times, the English exported beer to India. To preserve the beer for a longer period, extra-hopped beers were produced (hops maintain natural preservation and add bitterness to the beer).

75cl bottle from Systembolaget. Pours hazy light orange, with a layer of foam that sets as a thin vail on the beer. The consistency makes it look like a belgian wit beer in haziness. The aroma is breathtaking, citrus like you sometimes get from a really stronglyl late hopped american beer. The taste is a great balance between the yeast, bringing in fruity tunes, and the hops with their citrusy and piney bitterness. It is a great beer, this one. Contreras makes good beers, this is almost at the level with the Mars beer. Lovely.

Troebel bier met oranje gloed. Citrus, grapefruit, beetje kruidig in de neus. Lekker fris biertje, beetje romig, met hoppige afdronk. Niet al te bitter. Goeie ipa.

Pours a clear-ish body, but there are also quite a lot of small sediments suspended in the deep golden body. The large head is creamy, white and long-lived, and the fully lasting layer laces the glass well. Moderate aroma of Belgian yeast, light generic fruits and spices. Moderate flavour of Belgian yeast, spices, light fruity notes including apple, and general hoppy notes. The taste is light sweet and moderate bitter. Medium body, dry and lively carbonation. I was never in doubt while drinking this beer: this is a well hopped Belgian ale, it never crossed my mind that this was supposed to be an IPA. I find it a bit too hoppy for the yeast profile, the hops masks the Belgian-ness. On the other side, it’s far to under-hopped for an IPA. Anyway, a nice ale!

Poured from bottle, slightly hazy pale amber with high white head. Poured carefully the aroma is an explosion of fruit, with the yeast it loses the fruitiness. Taste is very well balanced, bitterness mixed with a good malt body and a nice bitter finish, with yeast the taste flattens and becomes a soggy belgian blonde ale.

Bottle at home. Pours a slightly hazy orange color with a compact, off-white head. Fruity aroma of orange peel, lemon, pale malt and dry hay. The flavor is also fruity with more oranges, grapefruit, fruity hops and grass. Has a slick mouth feel, medium body and a balanced bitterness. A fruity and malty IPA. Well-balanced and easy-drinking.
