A tasty, quaffable beer with plenty of liquorice / coffee flavours balanced by gentle citrus notes from the use of UK Pioneer hops.

Clear medium to dark amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, nutty, dusty, wood notes, light to moderate hoppy. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average duration. Body is light medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft. [20090724]

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW, London. Pours rich ruby, clear, with a small, foamy head. Moderate berries in the nose, some light coffee and roast character. Light sweet flavor with dark bread, light cocoa, faint toast and roast, light coffee, Light bodied with soft to fine carbonation. Lightly sweet on the finish with toasty cocoa, very faint fruits and dark, toasty bread. Nice mild.

Cask conditioned - handpump - Malt Shovel, Northampton. A dark brown beer with a tan coloured head. The aroma has smoky notes, burnt malts and caramel. The taste has coffee notes together with more swet caramel and a hint of burnt malt. Pretty nice.
