2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Cirrhosis (932) - Edmonton, - JUN 3, 2009
This beer is based on a red ale then has hemp added I guess that’s why they through it in the spiced ale category. The beer pours a very dark reddish brown; with a fairly thick quarter inch head it seems to have some good retention. A very smooth smell, mostly creamy malts and some mild hops very pleasant to smelling. Taste is a let down very light and watery with tons of bread in the finish, I can’t pick up any of the hops I found in the aroma. Medium bodied but has too much carbonation for me, the brew leaves a very sweet and smooth after taste. I can’t detect any thing that might be the hemp flavor, I’m pretty sure it’s just a marketing gimmick. This is a drinkable beer good for lawn work or just pounding a few back while watching the game but its nothing special.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 reebtogi (2169) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 15, 2012
355ml can pours a pale amber color with a finger of off-white head that leaves only a couple spots of lacing. Aroma is light grainy malts and herbs. Taste is light malty sweetness with a herbal presence and a mild hoppy finish. Light to medium body and light carbonation. A basic lager with some herbs is pretty decent, but nothing special.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Dogbrick (4837) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - FEB 20, 2012
Sample at the Strange Brew Tasting on 02/18/2012. Pours a brownish-copper color with a medium thin off-white head that diminishes quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Cereal malt and hay in the nose. Light body with a slightly herbal (get it?) character and notes of sweet malt and pine. The finish is short with a sweet malt aftertaste. Just an average gimmick beer overall.

Bottle shared by a friend. Clear amber pour with a thick off-white head. Malty nose with herbal and grassy character. Malty and grassy flavor with a bitter earthy finish.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 solidfunk (656) - Ontario, CANADA - OCT 2, 2011
Had this in a reggae club in Kensington. Not sure whether the hemp is supposed to contribute anything to the taste of the beer other than a lucrative targeted marketing, but the beer isn’t very impressive. Mild hint of bleach aftertaste. On tap.

Bouteille 341ml.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Metalchopz (1427) - Quebec, CANADA - MAY 26, 2011
Cool Beer seems to want to get some of the LCBO market with this small 4-packs, and this one being $5.50 written on it (among others like "Cool" and "Stonewall Light Lager"). Pours a copper-orange colour with a big creamy beige head that has decent retention and nice lacing. The aroma is mild but has some interesting notes of caramel, nuts, fruits, burnt sugars and hops. The taste starts a bit sweet with some butterscotch, then hints of fruits appear with some grainy malt to end on a light vegetable finish. Overall, not too sweet, easy-going and interesting to say the least.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Boutip (3459) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 24, 2011
Bottle: Poured a clear copper color ale with a nice foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of floral cereal notes with light dry hoppy notes. Taste is also a nice enough mix between some hoppy notes with clean floral cereal notes with light residual sweetness. Body is about average with good carbonation. Better then expected but nothing too write home about at the end of the day.

Pours a deep brown amber with a small frothy white cap. Aroma is caramel, toffee and malt. Taste is light, crisp, caramel, toffee and malted. Surprised, I expected terrible and this is drinkable.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 probstblueribbon (1967) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 23, 2011
341 ml bottle from Lubiere (merci!), served cold in a tulip glass. Age unknown...presumed to be...aged.
App.: Deep clear copper with a so-so tan head.
Aroma: Watery, minerals, vegetal, leafy, a bit earthy and nutty, a little earthy, British caramel/toffee comes through as it warms, a little dark dried fruit, not awful as it warms a bit.
Palate: Medium body, sparse carbonation.
Flav.: Mainly British malts...earthy, nutty, some caramel/toffee, lightly fruity, always kinda restrained and stern, a bit of a vegetal/leafy note, has some OK flavours, but a bit weak and messy overall; dry with minimal bitterness and a weak, earthy malt finish.
I’ll skip the weed jokes. Maybe this bottle was fairly young. If not, it held up well, I’d say. Not great beer, but not too tired either.
