COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer gets its dark color from the use of roasted barley, black malt, and chocolate malt used in the mash. Oatmeal is also used in this recipe which produces a beer with an exceptionally smooth and silky texture. The flavor is dominated by a dry roasted malt character with just enough hop bitterness to round out the flavor.

Solid black, foamy brown head. Aroma is rich roast malt and toasted bread with oat, chocolate and vanilla. Taste is bitter roast and thick sweet caramel. Finishes with roast bitter. Body is a little thin though.

Rustyham (1396) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - OCT 8, 2010
Starts out nice and malty, but is surprisingly bitter. Lots of hhops on top of the roastiness. If it wasn’t so solid, this could maybe pass fro a black IPA. Some silkiness in the palate, but that is counteracted by the bitter hops. Growler fill from the Brewery.

It was fluffy when it poured. Some lacing occurs. Smells like sesame oil, roasty. Tastes like a stir fry smoothie. Minimal bitterness, dissipates quickly on the palate.

Source:Sample at the brewpub.
Glass:Sampler.
Appearance:Black pour with a thin tan head.
Aroma:Roast and smoke. A faint note of meat was present, along with a sparse hint of very bitter chocolate
Flavor:Astringently dry roasted malt dominates the flavor entirely. Very big turnoff.
Palate:Medium body with mild carbonation.
Overall:This was by far the worst beer of the bunch. Not many redeeming qualities.
