Now here’s a beer with punch. Coopers Stout is a beacon for lovers of a hearty brew. With its robust flavour comprising a blend of fruit, chocolate and hop bitter notes it’s everything a stout should be. Brewed naturally using a top fermentation method, Coopers Stout’s unique rich, dark texture comes from specially roasted black malt.

This or Sierra Nevada's was the first step I took beyond that Dublin fare. Shocked me back then. Funny now it seems not the least bit extreme. Yes, too much it the over roasted taste, but I enjoyed it. Not done in a prime session, but out of the bottle in the dark, under the stars in the country. Well, maybe it was just right. If not a rerate here, I'll at least have another in a glass and ponder a bit more.

Poured black, with a dense tan head. Roasty aroma. Pretty strong roasted malt/chocolate flavors, bitter, but nice.

Highly roasty and strong ash flavors. It's pretty good after the first few sips. I was a bit put off by the dry bitterness at first, but it's nice. Nutty.

Dark - lasting tan head - roastiness abounds in the aroma, as well as the flavor - roasty even for a stout - very mild sweetness creeps in - decent body - a little watery in the finish, but otherwise a decent stout.

As can be expexted from Coopers---it's very good. Very smooth and drinkable, NOT meaning "watered-down", I like it a tad better than Guiness' Extra Stout. If you want a beer you can almost "munch" on, this is close.

Actually a tad of brown to the color. Small head. A little sweetness in the aroma. Did someone just blow smoke down my throat? Wow was that different. Some of the normal chocolate and coffee flavor too. Different. Maybe too different for my tastes, but good overall.

UPDATED: SEP 24, 2003 Very dark brown, almost black, with short lasted typical coopers head (brown in colour). Deep dark fruit aroma, raisins? plum?. Smell of roasted grain and a hint of coffee. Smokey burnt flavour with sweet chocolate taste too. Bitter aftertaste. Quite well balanced. Little too smokey for my liking, but a nice stout. Medium-thin mouthfeel. Rerate - Pretty much same as before, less dark fruit flavours though. Less smoke too.

Dark mohagany color with a rich tan colored head. Dark roasted malt sweetness with hints of bitter chocolate. Less lactic and more drinkable than many modern dry stouts.

Nice black pour with a lively tan head. Good middle of the road stout. All the things I look for such as a good dark roasted nose, hints of coffee and bitter chocolate but a little thin and nothing stands out. Lacking assertiveness I guess.
