Now here’s a beer with punch. Coopers Stout is a beacon for lovers of a hearty brew. With its robust flavour comprising a blend of fruit, chocolate and hop bitter notes it’s everything a stout should be. Brewed naturally using a top fermentation method, Coopers Stout’s unique rich, dark texture comes from specially roasted black malt.

UPDATED: MAY 17, 2004 I think this is the first twist-off bottle I've rated. Beer pours (in Chimay glass) a pitch black liquid light can not penetrate with a generous amount of caramel colored head that collapses, but lingers. Aroma is of plum, chocolate, raisin, molasses, sweet. Flavor is very complex, but gives hints of its character including a potent and deeply rich, lightly burned coffee. A closer inspection reveals an ever so slight hoppy character that can easily be bypassed by quaffing mouthfuls. Outstanding brew - I mean WOW. A slight hop is its only flaw. Must have again. Sampled at 72 degrees Fahrenheit.

I always buy this beer to break up the stout monotony without getting too radical--it's strong, sharp, and nicely carbonated. If you've got a rotation going with your stouts, I'd add this to the list.

Black as pitch, as stated. Quickly dissipating tan head. Roasted grain nose. COffee, yeasty, barley, roasted, chocolate, pleasant, and easy drinking. Not a bad stout at all.

Wow, this one surprised me. I was expecting a mild toasty experience, but I got a thick, black, burnt stout. Opaque, light brown head. I wouldn't say it's so thick you could eat it with a spoon, but it has an okay mouthfeel. Definitely burnt though, not just toasted. First initial impression was bitter hops, and could definitely taste the barley in it, but the finish was a little sweeter, and a bit alcoholic. Overall, for the price, it's a very nice, above average beer.

UPDATED: AUG 18, 2003 A nice dark stout. Poured with a big cola-colored head. Aroma and flavor of heavily toasted (burnt!) malts, bitter chocolate, and coffee. Some hops on the finish.

A good solid stout. Very crisp and clean with little to no aftertaste. Would never turn one of these bad boys down. An enjoyable stout indeed. Not the best, but definately worth a taste for any stout enthusiast.

A very well-balanced stout. Olivine, oaty stout aroma. A little tart, a little sweet, a good bit coffee-bitter. Sedimented black brew, OK label, twistoff cap. Warming. I was very pleased with this beer.

Starts off with a thick black pour with little to no head. Bit of an olive oil aroma - pleasant. Bit of a sweet underlying taste with hints of roasted coffee. Finishes strong - very impressed - will look for more from this brewer down under.

I really didn't like this at first (and the bar didn't give glasses) so I shook it to simulate pouring. Then it was quite good.

After many weeks of pondering whether or not i liked this, i was given the opportunity to give it another shot, from a mate at work who bought me a couple of bottles. I rated it mid 2's last time, i'll rate it mid 3's this time. I think last time i had it way too cold, and i probably wasn't in the mood either. Its kind of like i remembered it on first sample. Yet somehow, it appears less stouty (even though it is quite a stouty stout). The tarry bitterness is there, so is that subtle hit of banana and the roasted malt flavour, bitterness is there, but not particulalry heavy. A nicely balanced, pretty tasty stout.
