Now here’s a beer with punch. Coopers Stout is a beacon for lovers of a hearty brew. With its robust flavour comprising a blend of fruit, chocolate and hop bitter notes it’s everything a stout should be. Brewed naturally using a top fermentation method, Coopers Stout’s unique rich, dark texture comes from specially roasted black malt.

Quite attractive appearing beer; pours very dark brown, if not actually black with a nice big fluffy light brown head. Head exhibits good retention. Nice aroma also, exhibiting nice roastiness and a light shot of cream. Flavor is good, not great. Light smokey flavor. Not incredible, but quite passable.

I'm sampling this back-to-back with Lion Stout. This beer has a rather sweet milk chocolate aroma with notes of dark fruit and perhaps red wine. NOt as much licorice or smoke as I detected in the Lion Stout. The flavor here is lighter as well, and I pick up more "traditional" stout flavors (milk chocolate and roasted malts) as well as some malt vinegar, woodiness, and soy. A bit creamier than Lion Stout (which had an oilier body), but not as full-bodied or rich. "So thick you could just about eat it with a spoon" is not the most truthful statement. Still, I like these salty ales. Crikey!

Black with a light brown head. Woody, smoky aroma. Quited smoked flavour with some liquorice. Very tasty. Not unlike a watered-down Thisted Limfjordsporter.

An ok stout with a 'chewing on a green twig' aftertaste. Better than some but quite average.

Big old tan head that collapses densely leaving minimal lacing, lots of coffee in the aroma a hint of burnt caramel. Palate is curiously light, not in a thin (and so bad) way but in a "no sticky residue" (although I do love Sheaf and Southwark's work in this realm) manner. Quick burst of burned malt sweetness with coffee then a light bitterness off the tongue. I think prefer the other Coopers Stout currently (the special old) just on a thickness issue.

I may be crazy, but a detect a hint of red wine in the aroma. All the rest in reminescent of a classic stout.

Bottled. Poured a very translucent black with a tan head that diminished quickly. This one was very sweet with a fruity aroma. Decent - a little more hop would've been appreciated.

Bottled: Pitch black. Thin light brown head. Long lasting. Chocolate, malt and a light roastyness in the aroma. Subdued roastyness and some fruitness in the flavour. Some coffee notes. Smooth. Nice hoppy bitterness in the end.

Beautiful tan head, dark brown reddish body. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and liquorice. Sweet flavor of roasted malt and chocolate. Smooth and nice.

UPDATED: NOV 15, 2004 Nice tan head with small bubbles. Tasted like strong, dry, sweet coffee with black licorice. Mellow with a deep malty taste. Mellow, light, bitter finish.
