3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Kris Wines. Opaque black with off tan head. Nose out of the bottle is chocolate, syrupy black chocolate, roasted malt, then in the glass thereís some dark fruit, prune, stewed plum, dried date, Marmite (yeast extract), molasses. Taste is quite dark fruity, prune, dried date, and then on the finish its roasted malt, black coffee coming through. Little of the chocolate lingers. Very much along the lines of Guinness Foreign Stout in terms of flavours. Body is medium. Its not thick but quite light and carbonated.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Serving: Bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a very dark brown with a small, loose head of tan bubbles. The nose is roasty with a hint of raisin. Slightly metallic up front. Flinty with roasted malt and a touch of molasses. Thin body. Middle of the road at best in the stout world.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dense black body, small brown head. Intense toasted chocolate, vanilla and clove aroma. Thick mouthfeel, average carbonation, bitter finish. Coffee, licorice and chocolate. Excellent balance. As good as a stout shall be.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
37.5cl bottle. Pours deep dark brown, almost black, with small/medium tan head. The aroma is sweet malts with toasty notes and hints of chocolate. Thereís also a slight touch of red grape. Roasted malts are dominant regarding flavour, but one also gets licorice and hops. The palate is similar to coffee, subtle though. Light/Medium body, good carbonation. Quite complex, but the execution could be improved (lacks robustness).

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black with a big bubbled mocha coloured head that dissipates quickly but leaves a thin lid. The aroma is straight up roasted, coffee, chocolate and hints of banana bread. A dry and roasted start gives way to a long bitter finish with some slight sour notes. Medium to low carbonation and medium mouthfeel. A no frills stout thatís all about the black malt, and sometimes thatís all you need.
