COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Now here’s a beer with punch. Coopers Stout is a beacon for lovers of a hearty brew. With its robust flavour comprising a blend of fruit, chocolate and hop bitter notes it’s everything a stout should be. Brewed naturally using a top fermentation method, Coopers Stout’s unique rich, dark texture comes from specially roasted black malt.

very dark opaque colour. nose of roasted malt , coffee and burned fruit. nice vinous taste , very malty with chocolate and espresso notes. has a bitter hop finish. given its alcohol content and strong malt character this is very reminiscent of a good Imperial stout.

Very dark in color, bitter. I thought it was great.

Re-Rate 04/11/02: Black as the night, head is light chocolate, the lace is adequate. Nose is toasted malts, the front is sweet, the top medium, the finish is nicely hopped, dry, light carbonation. Not as good as I remember it, but still, a quite decent stout and worth the try.

Dry and pleasnt but not as dry as I would like. Cooper’s sparkling ale is their best.

I must be getting used to these thin-bodied, non-creamy, roasty, bitter stouts, because I rather liked this!

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2003 Ranks number one on my all-time-quantity-consumed list. Oily, thick and roasted, and quite fruity for a stout, with lots of banana esters sometimes, and a sharp yeast acidity that cuts through the muck in the finish. Rarely keeps a head for very long though, and can be overbubbly. But I've got a (dangerously) soft spot for it. RERATE: ok open letter to coopers: what have you done to my favourite beer? ABV has gone down from 6.8 to 6.3% and it's definitely heaps thinner and blander as a result. I'm presently drinking two side by side, one from the old batch and one from the new, and the contrast is huge. the 6.8% version has an obviously richer and stronger aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and cointreau, whereas the 6.3%er just smells faintly tarry and coffeeish. the 6.8%er has a lovely full, smooth, rounded palate with bitter chocolate, banana and a long wood/vanilla oily finish, whereas the new batch has a noticeably flat coffee and chocolate flavour with barely any finish except for a spike of pride of ringwood after a second or two. crap. i can't believe it. (the numbers are for the latest batch)

Wow, it’s 10:30 AM and this is one nice way to start the day. A rich dark brown/black, little head. Slightly overcarbonated. It’s odd but the faint taste of pomegranate makes it’s way through the roasted barley. Not as thick as I expected. I ended last night with a Castlemaine Carbine Stout, given a choice again, I will take the Coopers!

For a stout this high in ABV, it seems to be rather light in flavour and lacks complexity. It is rather well balanced and fairly sweet. Not bad, but I was expecting much more.

Coopers always produces a great beer, great bitterness with a mouth full of flavour, if my only bad point is i wish it had a bit more creaminess on the palate.
