COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Now here’s a beer with punch. Coopers Stout is a beacon for lovers of a hearty brew. With its robust flavour comprising a blend of fruit, chocolate and hop bitter notes it’s everything a stout should be. Brewed naturally using a top fermentation method, Coopers Stout’s unique rich, dark texture comes from specially roasted black malt.

Very easy drinking. A chocolate assault on the nose, then down the hatch and it’s smooth and light chocolate all the way, although finish is maybe a bit more cocoa than chocolate. Hides it’s 6.3% well until a very slight warming at the end. Much, much better than I was expecting.

Pitch black. Almost no head. Low aromas: coffee, chocolate, liquorice, cola nut. Fresh, subtle, soft. Short-lingering.

djoeye (2173) - Tromsø, NORWAY - APR 21, 2015
Dark brown head transforming into beige layer, near jet black body. Aroma; raisin, liquorice, black chocolate, roasted black malts, notes of dark plums. Taste; black chocolate, cocoaish liquorice, plum peels, roasted dark malts, raisins. Normal feel, fruity body. Fruity finish with black liquorice, prunes and black chocolate. Is it worth it, brewing a beer far away on the opposite side of the planet, sending it all the way to Scandinavia? In this particular case; yes! [375ml bottle B@Systembolaget]

UPDATED: APR 14, 2015 Bottle at Pudel, Tallinn. Pours black with brown head. The head stays for some time. Aroma is sweetness, roast, malt, smoke, fruits. Flavor follows the nose. Finish is roast bitter. Overall: ok, but somewhat dead and boring brew.

375 ml bottle into pint glass, best after 4/21/2014. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy dark brown head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, toast, dark bread, raisin, plum, light smoke, light herbal, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roast/bready malt and fruity yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, toast, dark bread, raisin, plum, light smoke/char, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Moderate amount of herbal/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, toast, dark bread, raisin, plum, herbal, light smoke/char, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice robustness, balance, and complexity of roast/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very creamy, smooth, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent foreign stout style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth to drink with a great creamy mouthfeel. A very enjoyable offering.
