BeerZack (116), Austin, Texas, USA Mar 6, 2008 Pours black with lots of sediment floaties being pushed around by constant streams of bubbles from the bottom of the glass. Huge head that settles to a nice thick covering of khaki foam that leaves big clumpy lacing.
Smells very sweet and yeasty. Banana, marshmallow, toffee, mild clove or nutmeg spice scents.
Sweet flavors similar to the nose, banana and marshmallow with some chocolate and bit of coffee underneath. Mildly dry finish that balances well.
Smooth and creamy mouthfeel, despite all the carbonation, thanks to the bottle conditioning; but still feels kinda weak. Overall, this stout reminds me a lot of a dopplebock with its medium body and soft yeasty character.
InvictaAndy (52), Helsingborg, Sweden Oct 7, 2008 Bottle: Brown/Black with lightbrown head. Roasted nose with hops and coffee. Taste fresh roasted, coffe and sweet tone. Bitter coffe finish. Ober (402), Best, Netherlands Oct 6, 2008 A black colored beer, with a foamy beige head. It disappears rather soon. The aroma of strong coffee with notes of dark roasted malts. The taste of chocolate, with coffee, dry bitterness. The roasted bitterness lingers on. mkel07 (8), Brisbane, Australia does not count Oct 1, 2008 750ml bottle sampled from a snifter type glass. Good pour with a foamy head. Dark tan in colour with strong hoppy aromas nearbeer (1330), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Oct 1, 2008 375 ml, best after 2007! Opaque with a quarter-inch foam that leaves nice webbing on the glass. Initial sweet aromas of molasses, char, marshmallow and graham cracker. Flavor is surprisingly much less sweet: roasty tastes of char, coffee and cocoa more than tame some light marshmallow, vanilla and molasses. Also some tangy green herbs to liven things up. Medium body is watery and nearly chalky dry. jhagmar (72), Gothenburg, Sweden Sep 28, 2008 355 ml bottle. Practically black with a medium tan head slowly diminishes to a thin top. Some malty and fruity notes as one would expect; coffee, hay, prunes, oak, but surprisingly strong on the hoppy side with aromas of grass and herbs. Initially quite bland, but the finish is rather complex with some acidity, some sweetness and a mild bitterness. Light mouthfeel, yet astringent. Fizzy carbonation.
