2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 blankboy (4287) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 8, 2006
Bottle shared with HogTownHarry. Pours a murky dark brown with an average size diminishing off-white head and tons of floaties. Sweet yeasty aroma of nuts, caramel malt, chocolate and dark fruit. Muted lightly roasted flavour of dark malt, light chocolate and a hint of nuts with a slightly metallic finish. Light bodied. It’s O.K., I’ve had worse Browns then this but it’s still pretty mediocre and somewhat dissapointing.
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 HogTownHarry (4809) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - MAY 8, 2006
Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy, his bottle. Poured deep mahogany with a huge flock of chunkies, smallish biege head. Some light caramel malt, but I get sulfurous yeast, dry scorched grain - not very nice. Taste follows - this is a bit like caramel-flavoured water strained through harsh grains and broken nutshells - lightly carbonated, sort of ugly aftertaste, watery body - the pale was okay, this is pretty substandard.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 allfreej (466) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - MAY 7, 2006
Bottled. Disappointing, as this had been recommended by the proprietor of a fine wine and beer store as one of his favorites. I should have opted for Cooper’s excellent stout and left this one on the shelf.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 darkerdabetter (255) - Michigan, USA - MAY 6, 2006
Looked like it had potential, but fell short in all categories, just plain thin. It wasn’t bad, with good hints of chocolate and caramel, but nothing great.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Quixote18 (230) - Johnson City, Tennessee, USA - APR 30, 2006
Poured from bottle into a shaker glass. I initially didn’t like the aroma, but the early medicinal smell dissapated and gave way to some mildly roasty malts, and then more sweet. mellow maltiness. The color was dark brown and cloudy with a hint of red. It had a medium-lasting off white head. In the flavor I was dissappointed that much of the rich malty aroma (that I waited so patiently for) didn’t transfer over. Also there was something unpleasant in the finish that I’ve noted in some other Cooper’s products. I’m not sure what it is, but I don’t like it. The body was of medium thickness and very overcarbonated.

The aroma is coffee like, with yeast, and caramel. The appearance is brown with a medium head and huge particles. The flavor is like the aroma with the addition of some chocolate and lots of bread like malt. The palate is smooth. It’s a simple but nice beer!
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 harrisoni (9611) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - MAR 27, 2006
Bottle from Utobeer. Dark brown beer with thick lasting head. Subtle dark malt aroma, some choc, bit boiled in mouth. Nice yeast aroma. Choc finish. Bit like a brown ale. Fine if a bit dull but nice choc malt.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Perkeo (321) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAR 20, 2006
Dark brown verging on black, tan foam. Carbonic nose, slightly sprucy, a little forest floor action. Carbonic prickle on the tongue is followed by roasted malt and black forest bread, slightly bisquity with some hop backbone. Slightly acidic, ashy on the edges of the tongue but with a nice medium bodied spritzy malt core. Nice every day quaff, like a brown porter, much nicer than what I usually think of as brown ale.
