Bottle, Rehills, Newcastle. I agree with alepigg below, on the initial taste of this, however, loads of roasted barley comes into play soon after. Maltiness also very evident, but balanced out later by some good bitterness. Blackcurrant and cherry are the prominent fruit flavours on the tongue and there’s a hint of smoke in the aftertaste, rounding things off nicely.

Sampled in Adelaide. A very quality brew, probably the second best that they have. A good sipping brew.Pours dark brown with a little head. Best served cold and goes well with a nice dinner.

The first sip of this is kind of off putting, neither stout nor ale and a peanut sort of undertone that made me feel queasy. Thankfully the latter disappeared, and I started to really enjoy it’s roasted chestnut and caramel sort of flavour. Robust like all Coopers beers, and EXCELLENT on a cold night. Not as high quality as Coopers Best Extra Stout, but gains ground back by it’s easier drinkability, I’d take this over the Extra Stout on a night out anyday. Coopers continue to piss over all other Australian commercial brews with this one!

UPDATED: MAY 13, 2009 375ml bottle. Dark brown beer with a small head that only lasted long enough for me to see that it was light brown. Aroma is all malt, chocolate. Flavour is pretty much the same as aroma. Body is as per most coopers a little thinner than i hoped but still smooth enough.
Though lacking complexity i found this to be a quite nice overall.

My first beer from Australia. Pretty malty in the aroma/flavor, although not much else. Some hints of toffee, but mainly malt. Body is smooth, if not a bit thin. Overall not bad, but nothing really stands out...would probably not get this again.

375ml bottle.Dark ruby in colour with a large rocky tan and cream head which was thick to look at. Aroma of toffee and burnt malt with a hint of coffee and chocolate. Zingy in the mouth with a lingering flavour of burnt toffee. Could drink several of these.
