3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Vertical tasting of the 2013, 2012 and 2011 vintages. All kept under cellar conditions. Overall score an average of the three.
2013. App 3. Aroma 7. Taste 7. Palate 4. Over 15
Thick orange with minimal head. Fruity aromas - honeydew melon, slight caramel. Flavours of sweet malt and some slight Belgian characteristics. A touch of alcohol is noticeable at the end and slightly over carbonated.
2012. App 4. Smell 7. Taste 8. Palate 5. Over 16.
Similar appearance. Aromas of biscuit, licorice, bread and subdued alcohol. Eatery flavours and stewed fruits with a nice bitterness through the mid palate. Low carbonation with a beautiful smooth mouth feel. The alcohol was slightly obvious.
2011. App 4. Smell 7. Taste 8. Palate 4. Over 17.
Coppery orange with a small cream coloured head. Big bread aromas. The aromas are bigger than the 2012, but perhaps simpler. A sweet front palate, with caramel malts, bread and a mid level bitterness. Amazingly smooth and rich palate. The alcohol is perfectly integrated as opposed to the 2013 and 2012, although there is a slight fizz which might mean its starting to slightly oxidise. I had to take a point off the palate for this but this was the best of the three.
Can't wait until next years tasting. There's one 2011 left and I'll add the 2014.

Bottle(2013 vintage) pours a very Deep Earthy red colour.

Taste.Has a nice fruity character and a slight alcohol taste, and a flavour i can best describe as somewhat of a combination between a burnt, bitter and espresso flavour also some general fruit flavours.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle conditioned. Brewed with choice malts and an extended top fermentation. This naturally conditioned ale experiences interactions between the robust malt, hop and yeast characteristics, to exhibit an intriguing journey of flavour development over a period of five years when stored under cellar conditions.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2008 bottle consumed on 5/17/13 - Pours dark amber with dark, chunky suspended yeast. It smells of caramel and dark fruit. The flavor is sweet with obvious caramel and a slight hint of the dark fruit I was smelling. Itís medium to full bodied and lightly carbonated. Iíd say itís holding up pretty well after five years. While this is a good beer, itís not great and itís no Thomas Hardy. Personally I donít find it worth aging for years.

Bottle from Plonk (2013 vintage). Dark amber/brown, strong malt characters, some alcohol evident, earthy, rich caramel/butterscotch, quite bitter without much hop aroma or flavour. Ok.
