3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Murky orange brown body with a thin creamy beige head. There’s some visible sediment in the liquid. Aroma is roasty, caramel malt. Some liquorice. Taste is sweet with a light bitterness. Soft to average carbonation. A bit of a tannic mouth-feel in the finish.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Malty and fruity beer. Red apples, redcurrant, apricot jelly, dried fruit, some anisee and spicy hops. Very nice though the good overall impression fails being upheld in the taste. It is dry, less fruity than expected and rather alcoholic, especially in the somewhat astringent finish. As it warms it makes the shift from alcoholic and rough to more mellow and anisee driven but also boring. Which isn’t exactly good either.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2013 vintage, overall a good beer. ABV is pretty well hidden, not too many boozey flavours. Overcarbonated though, nice floral hop aroma, sweet raisiny malt. Tastes awfully like a strong coopers green to be honest (pale ale).

2.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
2013 355ml bottle purchased in Dunedin NZ and comsumed the same day.
Pours dark reddish amber with poor clarity and a fizzy, short-lived head. No lacing is left on the wine glass.
Aroma: sweet and pleasant with a suggestion of cordial. Higher ABV evident here as well as in the taste and feel.
Fruity flavor with a battle between sweet and bitter.
Feel: light body; mildly astringent with some alcohol heat; low carbonation leaves this ale rather lifeless.
O: cannot recommend this old style ale despite its fine aroma.

2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pours a maduro brown with some creamy foam accenting the top. Spot lace. Smells like malt and a hint of molasses with a solid point of oxidation. Maybe some tea like aromas. Flavor is surprisingly oxidized and fruity for the nose. Lots of wood, yeast and cherry flavor. Medium bodied with hi carb and a semi slick finish. Not a particularly impressive offering.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Vertical tasting of the 2013, 2012 and 2011 vintages. All kept under cellar conditions. Overall score an average of the three.
2013. App 3. Aroma 7. Taste 7. Palate 4. Over 15
Thick orange with minimal head. Fruity aromas - honeydew melon, slight caramel. Flavours of sweet malt and some slight Belgian characteristics. A touch of alcohol is noticeable at the end and slightly over carbonated.
2012. App 4. Smell 7. Taste 8. Palate 5. Over 16.
Similar appearance. Aromas of biscuit, licorice, bread and subdued alcohol. Eatery flavours and stewed fruits with a nice bitterness through the mid palate. Low carbonation with a beautiful smooth mouth feel. The alcohol was slightly obvious.
2011. App 4. Smell 7. Taste 8. Palate 4. Over 17.
Coppery orange with a small cream coloured head. Big bread aromas. The aromas are bigger than the 2012, but perhaps simpler. A sweet front palate, with caramel malts, bread and a mid level bitterness. Amazingly smooth and rich palate. The alcohol is perfectly integrated as opposed to the 2013 and 2012, although there is a slight fizz which might mean its starting to slightly oxidise. I had to take a point off the palate for this but this was the best of the three.
Can't wait until next years tasting. There's one 2011 left and I'll add the 2014.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
355 ml bottle. Pours a hazy light mahogany with moderate head. Aromas of toasted malts, brown sugar, and citrus. Flavors of toasted malts, brownies, golden raisins, and dry bitter hops. Medium-full body with good carbonation. Long bitter finish but not overly so. Quite nice.
