Sledge Jr (2720), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Jan 25, 2004 Oh, sweet Jesus! I drank way too much of this at the 2003 Steamboat Festival. This one is worth the trip to Ft. Collins for the barleywine lover. If you could imagine the marriage of a chocolate brownie with a fine single malt...well, you've just got to try this one. Beaver (487), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Dec 24, 2003 The Black Powder poured copper (?, hard to tell at the bar) with a little head that quickly dissipated to a ring. It had a tart alcohol/sherry aroma. I really like the taste. It's smooth and full-bodied with a taste of figs, carmel and oak with an alcohol finish. This is a nice drinkable barley wine that I like to partake of when in season. Crosling (1658), Loveland, Colorado, USA Dec 12, 2004 Updated: Dec 26, 2004Ruby. Dying head. Nose of molasses, honey, oak, sherry and dark fruits. Well aged and melded malt driven flavor. Notes of caramel and molasses, sherry and dark fruits. Well hidden alcohol. Medium bodied but the texture is fairy watery. Still though, like almost every barley wine, this is pretty damn good. Ringo (959), Loveland, Colorado, USA Jun 30, 2003 Draft. This strong barley wine tastes great, and put me under after having a couple of other Coopersmith's beers with my dinner. Actually I should say that it was the stout float for dessert that put me under, but it was the barley wine that was the cause. Good stuff if you happen to be there in winter when they make it. Aubrey (2603), Denver, Colorado, USA Feb 15, 2003 Couldn't really see the color in the bar, but it appeared dark amber. Thick and chewy mouthfeel. Big and sweet black licorice flavors exude throughout. Only mildly hoppy. Alcohol is hidden rather well, but this beer has a kick!
