A hearty stout with a robust flavor of roasted chicory root. Perfect for the cool Fall weather.

Tap, nitro I think. Head was fine bubbles, medium sized, off-white. Body is clear, very dark brown. Light cream aroma. Taste starts with a hearty roasted malt, mixed with some serious spicing. Lots of cinnamon, and what reminds me of chai tea. Light fruitiness in the background. Bitter, roasty finish. Fairly light bodied, but I thought it fit well with something that was trying to be a foreign/chocolate stout. One of the better ales from Coopersmiths.

UPDATED: JAN 17, 2011 Tap at the brewery. Deep dark brown body with a creamy brown head. Dark roasted brown malts. Very bitter roasted brown flavor. Flavor is a bit like a burnt BBQ taste. Pretty nasty beer.

Black with brown and red light at edges, with a tan creamy nitro head. Very smooth, some coffee, chocolate, and a big milk presence. Bite of hops and alcohol in the finish, and otherwise it's just a very smooth milk stout.

The Chicory Stout looked very impressive when pored - almost like a perfect stout. It was extremely dark with a nice creamy lgiht brown head with very fine bubbles that lasted for the duration. It's too bad it didn't live up to its appearance. The aroma was slightly malty and chocolatey, not as bold as I would have liked. It was also not nearly as full tasting as I would expect from a stout. The inital taste was a sweet floral flavor. It had a bitter toffee finish. However, the more I drank it, the less I liked it. The aftertaste became more and more overwhelming and unpleasant - almost soapy or chemical-like.
