COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This golden lager has a soft maltiness balanced with the crisp Saaz hop flavor and aroma. It is a classic style originating from Pilsen in the Czech Republic. 5.5% ABV. Poet and former president of Czechoslovakia, Vaslav Havel, successfully negotiated the 1993 break-up of the country avoiding a certain bloody civil war.

Tap at the brewery - very clear, fizzy gold - a bit sweet up front for the style, with some honey character and banana that is initially off-putting - however, it dries out nicely through the middle, providing crisp dry malts through the finish, as well as a strong, spicy saaz bite that lingers - starts weak and finishes pretty strong.

Draft at the brewery. Clear gold. Fresh and lightly sweet honey/pils malt nose and flavor. A bit too much aspartame sweetness, but still very refreshing and crisp.

Faint aroma. Golden color, slightly bronzed. Taste is malty and full, but doesn’t taste like a lager until the finish. Needs more hops, saaz. A lager trying to be an ale.

Ernest (5184) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - FEB 22, 2004
Draught. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (cookie), lightly hoppy (herbs). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, slightly husky. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Little aroma and a grainy aftertaste hurt this otherwise well-balanced pils.
