2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Ernest (5184) - Boulder, USA - FEB 11, 2007
Draught. Head is mostly diminishing. Body is medium amber. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain, cookie), lightly to moderately hoppy (grapefruit, resin), with a note of diacetyl. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter, slightly unclean. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. A buttery diacetyl note kind of steals the show here, as happens with many of Coopersmith’s pale ales. Not awful, but not pleasant either.

Draft at Brewery Aug ’08: Poured an orange color. The aroma was sugary pine and hops. The flavor was sweet and hoppy, some citrus and bitterness. Overall, not as good as the Punjabi, but decent non the less.

Growler. Unfiltered brown amber with a small tan head. Big fruity orange nose, some melon and old pear, along with a lot of wet bread and a spicy ginger note that seems weird. Flavor has that sharp pepperiness of ginger, some citrus, light acidity. Some creamed maraschino cherries in finish. Decent, not great.

Draught from the brewpub poured into sampler - Pours clear amber with a white head; Floral hops, malt, and a hint of citrus to the nose; Lots of floral hops and malt on the initial taste; Bitter grassy hops backtaste; Watery medium palate; Almost no carbonation; Not bad, but I’ve had many a better APA.
