COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A style that was created on the West Coast during the gold rush (1850's). Steam beer is characterized by using lager yeast at ale temperatures. This beer has a smooth maltiness with just a touch of hop dryness in the finish

It does remind me of Anchor Steam on tap, so they got the style correct. But I don’t like Anchor Steam on tap, it is one of the few beers that I prefer to drink right out of the bottle. Not even in a glass. But they did get the California Common style down, my congrats to the skillful brewers for not just making an average yellow beer and calling it steam.

Pour on tap at the brewery, reddish pour with thin white head. Aroma brought notes of slight acidic fruits, hints of grain, caramel, touch of grassy earth, but not much going on here. Taste is slightly acidic, slight hints of grain, biscuit, touch of grass and caramel in there. Overall very subdued tastes, and towards the end I got a bit of butter.

Tap @ brewery. Light orange appearance with a white head. Light amber, generic nose. Medium hued malty flavor, somewhat ambery. Great smooth Steam beer flavor but still far inferior to Anchor.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours dark gold with a medium white head. There’s not much aroma. Flavor of green fresh hops. has a medium body and far more carbonation than most of the beers served here. This is not only not the best beer here, but I think they miss the style by a good distance.

An ok steam beer. Almost tasted like cider to me for some reason. Drank it at the brewery. I had been drinking all day though so my ratings may be a little off.

Draught from the brewery poured into pilsner - Pours red gold with a white head that goes quickly; Sweet malt and light citrus hops to the nose; Pale malts and light citrus hops on the initial taste; Much of the same on the backtaste; Medium to light palate; Lively carbonation; Had a little bite to it, but overall just kinda boring.

On draft at the brewpub, 4/12/06: This was light yellow with a very sticky white head. Crisp and clean and malty, cereal-based, but a well balanced brew.

Draught. Head is mostly diminishing. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (resin). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, husky. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Thin, watery, grainy, not much here. Below average IMHO.

Tap @ 16th Colorado Brewfest. Pours copper with an off-white small head. Fruit hop and sour malt aromas. Sour malt flavor with a hop end. Light bodied and fizzy palate.

Slight bitter aroma. Color is a pretty typical light copper. Taste is nutty, with some serious tart fruitiness. Comes out more in the finish. Becomes more drinkable as it warms up.
