Ughsmash (3070), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Sep 17, 2008 Bottled. Poured lighter brown with an explosive head that filled the glass. The aroma picked up toasted milkier chocolates, a pinch of coffee, and some detergent.. oak and piney notes give a bright uptake on the back. The flavor had a wider array of dark malts, with licorice joining charred coffee grounds and baker’s chocolate at the core.. light earthy bitterness surrounded, and the detergent was absent.. tasty. Super carbonated on the palate with a dry, scratchy bitterness rolling off the finish.. tad sharp at the end. kkearn (682), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 21, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours very dark amber, with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, toasted malt, root beer, and anise. flavor of coffee, nuts, anise, liquorice, chocolate and molasses. Finishes is bit astringent, with some coffee bitterness. Haslinger (546), Syracuse, New York, USA Jun 17, 2008 bottle, Pours a dark ruby. The taste is malty with a little breadiness. slight slight hops. It is kind of thin there isn’t really the traditional thickness of the beer that I was hoping would be associated with this beer. Would not buy again Tilley4 (218), Huron, Tennessee, USA Apr 2, 2008 Fairly average porter here. Pretty good chocolatey taste but a little too thin even for a porter. I liked this one but it isn’t a favorite of the style. MI2CA (1091), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Mar 24, 2008 12oz - thanks beastiefan2k - Aroma is creamy dark malts, milk chocolate and earthy hops. Pours very dark brown with a huge head out of the cellar. Seriously, it took me 3 pours (draining it each time, to get a 12 ounce bottle in a 20 ounce glass.) Good lacing. Flavor is much better than aroma. Smooth chocolate and roasted malts followed by a decent amount of hoppiness. Palate is creamy then tart. Not bad, a little too heady.
