Batch 19 is derived from a recipe found in an old logbook discovered in brewery archives dating back before 1919, when Prohibition banned beer throughout the country. Prohibition was enforced in Colorado in 1916. The pre-Prohibition style lager delivers a bold, hoppy flavor that is surprisingly well balanced. Test market in Chicago, Milwaukee, San Francisco, San Jose, and Washington DC.

Transfer from BA review on 1-7-13- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – Pours a golden amber colored brew with a one finger white head. The head fades rather fast to leave a nice level of lacing. Smell- The aroma is heaviest of a bready and caramel smell. Mixed with these aromas is a light hop smell of a citrus and earthy nature Taste – The taste begins with flavors of bread and some caramel sweetness. As the flavor advances a light roasted malt flavor comes to the tongue along with some hop flavors of an earthy nature come to the tongue. As the flavor advances more to the end, it crisps up more as the caramel flavors diminish some and more bready flavors comes to the tongue. With these transitions more hop flavors of a light citrus nature come to the tongue as well and leave a lightly hopped crisp flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the lighter side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is very average. It’s pretty decent for the style as it is smooth and matched the crispness and light hop flavors of the brew fairly well. Overall – A nice easy drinking and good session brew. It has enough hop flavor to make it somewhat exciting, but it still maintains an easy and relatively clean lager taste.

At Denver Airport. From tap. Reasonably attractive in glass - clear light gold with half a finger head that quickly recedes. A little funky nose - some malt. Taste is corn, malt, and really just kind of blah. It's not particularly interesting or good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I drank this at Summerfest in Milwaukee, WI, then I went to the hospital for 4 days (completely unrelated to the beer). This is the last beer I'll have for a little while, and I'm kinda bummed it was this one.

Bottle. Aroma is funky. Grass, dirt, bread. Taste is same funky. Flavor is weak, all grass, metallic. Not that good imo, but better than most main stream beers.

Strange taste. It's as if it wants to be hoppy but it really isn't. Thanks to a guy at work he gave me a case for free. Otherwise I don't think I would buy it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On draft at Miller Park. Brewers vs. Nationals. Great seats right behind first base. The beer is hazy and light brown with a half inch of light khaki head. The aroma is adjunct sweetness, sweet caramel malt. Smells macro all the way. The taste is just shitty. There’s really no other way to say it. I try to rate to style, and I don’t expect an adjunct lager to have the complexity of a gueze or big imperial stout. That said, this beer tastes like syrup, artificial sweeteners, fake fruity crap. There is no integrity in this product. This beer was designed for commercial purposes only. Gross on so many levels. Avoid.

Light gold pour the white bubbly head almost completely gone before I could get through half this review. That was fast. In a hurry to find a sampling of six new brews had me lunging for this cool label and interested in checking out a brew bragging on its "pre-prohibition" style lager. If I had the time I would have read the bottle more closely, at that point I would not have picked this one up. I’m definitely not a huge fan, but I’m glad I was able to try it. Coors actually didn’t do a bad job but I must say I came very close to running away from this when I discovered the brewer. Still, this is much heavier a lager than I expected, a little yeasty, but crisp. I am not enjoying the aftertaste, however, as it seems really bitter and slightly metallic. My take is that this is not worth the price, but a damn sight better than a regular Coors.

Coors should return the beer recipe for this one back to the archives. A beer which is way past its’ prime...
