Once more I ride the silver bullet into the shallow end of mediocrity with the American Standard Light Lager, Coors Light. All aboard and all off, I can only hope for a short eventless ride.

Clear light straw fills my taster glass with nary a head and barely a ringlet of white in sight. Shazam! He swirls with nothing to show for it except a steady stream of carbonation which does little to lift my spirits. Instead, it lifts his nose of lemon seltzer water marked with limey rind and dry grains upward and over my sensitive nose. Wait. Dangit, now where did he run off to? I search to every end and with no avail. Oh well. For a brief moment I spotted a wee bit of aromas though far from tantalizing they were. Seeing as I have no choice but to follow this misguided journey to its tasteless end, I wade into his spritzy watery palate. Nothing in the front. Nothing in the back. Despite his bubbly appearance, his mouthfeel is more creamy than spritzy marked by a lovely club soda with lemon-lime flavor. Mm… Maybe some gin would do the trick. But I digress. Water abounds and for a brief moment a soggy lump of bread bobs by for a brief escapade with my tastebud before drifting along his watery way. Land spotted, I make my immediate escape from an otherwise watery grave and deposit the last bit of my tasting glass down the good ol’ kitchen sink drain.

Whew! Glad that’s over. I’m all for a dip in a clear mountain stream, but when it comes to beer I’ll keep the water for dipping and the beer for sipping. Separate and most certainly not alike.

12oz cans (mostly). You know, Coors is OK with me. This, however, is just like all the other light/lite/lyte beers. Thin, flavorless, no character, no depth. Watery, slightly alcoholic and thin in all aspects.

Bottle pours yellow with a white head. Pretty much no odor, especially nothing worth smelling. Flavor is water and corn. Yum.

THOUGHTS: Better than I remembered it, but just a slightly better than average light beer. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, very light straw color with an average to large, white head that mostly diminished, but kept a nice sheet and left good lacing. The aroma was a hint of grain, a hint of malt and light vegetable. The initial flavor was slightly sweet and slightly acidic; while the finish was lightly sweet, slightly acidic and lightly sour with a somewhat short duration. There was citrus, grain, corn, and sour malt; but it was all watered down. The light body was watery with rather fizzy carbonation and not much of a finish (maybe a hint of astringency).

It just seems to be a beer that just sits there. It’s not bad but I find it boring. It has little or no head to it. I found it to have a slightly sour taste. After taste is a bit bitter but not too tough to take. If it were a new car it would be the base model economy car with no radio, sure it would get you around but you’d sure be bored.

Can : Light Golden Color, white head obviously. Funky hop aroma, but the flavors are watered down corn syrup, funky hops - is that it? I suppose. Mouthfeel is light, a little bitter at the end, a little sweet as well. Oh, and there’s that metallic character.

Nothing good to say about this beer. I don’t like light beers but this is a hole new level. Beer? or BAD Water?
