The Banquet Beer was born in the Rockies and has been a proud part of the American experience for generations, stubbornly refusing to compromise, since 1873.

Can. Every now and then you realize that there is a beer with almost 800 ratings that has been sitting in front of you for years that you’ve never bothered to rate. This is one of those times. Light gold, perhaps a tad darker than some of its ilk. Head comes up quick and dies fast. Served in an ice cold mug for authenticity. Couldn’t smell or taste a darn thing while the ice was floating in it, so waited an our or so for the actual rating. Aroma still practically non-existent, perhaps very faintly grainy. Hey, at least it isn’t offensive. Carbonic sting serves nicely to mask flavors. Again mostly grainy, with perhaps just the faintest touch of granny smith apples. Happily not an adjunct laden mess. Obviously, this isn’t a great beer. But it isn’t offensive either, so it gets some kudos there.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2008 Not too common as it is heavier and harder to drink than Light. Once had 8 cases of it as they were running a special on the bottles for about half the price of anything else in the store

Can - BSU tailgate party: Pours a dark golden color with a large white head. Aroma of not much coupled with a taste of malts, grain, and metal. Not horrible.

On draught at local tavern in St Paul, MN. Pours a clear golden blond brew with a fast dissolving white head. Aroma of light bread malt and a touch of citrus. Flavor is light bodied, well-carbonated, watery bread malt . Finish is slightly sweet at first and then a clean cut with no flavor. A Colorado maco-brewed beer.

30 years ago this was a good tasting beer. I was also a virgin then. That was 30 years ago.

It’s actually really funny to me that this is rated a point higher than Coors Light. The two taste identical. I guess maybe everyone out there just likes feeling bloated?

From a can poured golden color with a fair amount of head. Tasted like a typical macro, not alot of flavor no real finish.

UPDATED: MAY 16, 2011 Oh yea, the banquet beer! Sparkling, with a thin head. Poured from a can. Typical cheap lager aroma. Now I know where the N/A Coors gets its flavors. Tastes a little like cardboard, but in a good way. Very little bitterness. I’m left wondering why the Coors light and the Coors Extra Gold lacks that cardboard flovored palate. Above average enjoyable carbonation. Finish is non assuming and friendly, not offensive.
