Bourbon aroma. Dark coloured and very strong in alcohol with a crisp and bitter lasting roast malt finish.

To be fair, I hate coffee. I’ve tried it several times over the years. I’ve tried the cheap ones, the fancy ones, tried it with creamer, sugar and black. I tried it several times while young, in college, and again while living in Europe, where coffee was virtually a must-have for breakfast or if one wanted caffeine aside from Red Bull or Coke--neither of which I also care for.
Bias admitted, this one is still a little overwhelming. It smells like coffee, looks like coffee and tastes like coffee. Dark brown, it has a bit of glass cling, albeit with a thinner body.
This would be a 1.0 accross the board in my personal notebook, but that’s not fair as it is what it claims to be. That said, it is unbalanced and extreme ... and tastes like coffee, except it’s colder.
Serving type: on-tap

Tap sample. Poured black color with a large fizzy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted sweet malt and coffee aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium dark chocolate sweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable beer.

From sampler at brewpub. Pours dark brown with small tan head. Aroma is roasted coffee and some malts. Flavor is roasted malt, coffee, and light caramel sweetness. Average mouthfeel and carbonation. Average coffee stout. I had a buddy tell me this tastes like coffee and buffalo wing sauce.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 lumberjack (178) - Michigan, USA - NOV 28, 2008
Dark brown with a little bit of an off-white head. Aroma is pure coffee beans. Taste is also coffee-dominated, not muchh in the in the way of complexity. Not a bad stout, but a bit boring overall.

GABF 2008. Clear dark brown, strong brewer’s cereal aroma (not getting a stouty vibe here...). Sweet toasty bread-crust caramel flavour, but NO ROAST!! No real coffee essence either. Thin mouthfeel. WTF, did they pour me a sample from the wrong pitcher? This does not come across as a stout at all, let alone a coffee stout.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Nephilium (951) - Ohio, USA - MAY 14, 2008
Slightly sweet, roasted aroma. Pours black with a thin tan head. A touch of roast flavors with some underlying sourness, and a very thin mouthfeel. Disappointing for a coffee stout, especially one had on tap at the brewery.

Dark cola color, some head with a tan foam. Bitter coffee is dominant with just a touch of sweetness hidden inside. Very nice, wish they had it on tap all the time!
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 18/20 Precept53 (146) - West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA - JUL 22, 2007
In my opinion their best beer, almost cola like appearence, with a small brown head, very nice roasted coffe and chocolate aromas and flavors, a very well made stout. My only complaint is that I would have liked it a bit colder.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Pailhead (3436) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - DEC 28, 2006
On tap: The aroma is equal parts chocolate and roasted coffee with just a hint of vanilla. Dark brown with faint orange hilights and a moderate tan head. The flavor starts with moderate chocolate up front with some hints of vanilla. The finish has moderate roasted coffee with some faint piney bitterness. A very tastey stout.
