COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The quintessential General Lafayette Inn brew, we carry on the tradition at the Crow of producing this rich, flavorful dark ale. Call it a Porter, call it a Stout, we call it delicious. Chocolate, coffee, and roasted flavors blend with an uncanny drinkability in this local legend.

Tap at the Tiedhouse. Rich, chocolate and espresso aroma. Sweaty and nice. Dryish, creamy, chalky palate, not as rich as the aroma but a very solid effort. Sorry for this terribly short rating, thatís all Iíve got written down and to be honest I canít remember a damn thing about this beer.

Draft at GLI. Chocolate donut aroma with a really hoppy bite. The chocolate is more in the aroma than the flavor. Thereís a burnt malt thing going on. This stuff ainít half bad.

22oz handbottle, 2008 batch, courtesy of axilla. Thanks, John! Pours a very dark cola-brown color; textured, medium tan head with solid retention and web-like lacing with medium bubbles; excellent head texture; even for a handbottle, a beautiful pour. Lots of oily chocolate, nougat, and creamy vanilla in the aroma; smells like oily, very creamy milk chocolate. Very relaxed carbonation. Medium-to-full, creamy mouthfeel: roasted malts, ridiculously creamy and dense milk chocolate, nougat, vanilla; a nice citrus and mineral bitterness coming through as well; softly roasted, viscous, chocolate-full porter. Very creamy and generous. Lengthy finish, showing bitter chocolate, tons of breadiness, and roasted malts in the finish; a touch of bitterness.

Courtesy of kmweaver. Dark brown body with a medium sized light tan head. The nose is cola, chocolate, molasses and raisins. The flavor is just lightly sweet with lots of bitter, buttery cocoa, cola, brown sugar and dates. Medium body is soft with light carbonation.

Pours a black color with a dark small head. The aroma is smoky with olives and dark fruit with some chocolate in there as well. The flavor is smoky coffee dark chocolate and a nice bitterness with some pronounced alcohol notes, complex and delicious!

Tap at Barcade: Pours thick oily with an initial thick brown head which fades. Nice roasty cappucino aroma. The flavor has suggestions of coffee/java icecream, followed by sweet yeasty fruityness of mangos, papayas. Itís a bit syrupy though. The flavors are great, but for some reason they donít seem to mesh well. Still very quality and enjoyable.

This brew pours nearly black with little head. Roasty with some maltiness, the body is a bit on the light side.

From the tap poured dark brown with a good amount of light brown head. Nice rich malty sweet flavor, with a good finish.

Bottle, graciously sent by Hopdog. Pours near solid black and fairly thick for a porter. A rim of a tan head forms. The aroma is very rich with English leaning qualities of toffee, raisins, and brown sugar backed by huge chocolate scents and a dash of coffee and vanilla. I took a sip to be very surprised at how good this tastes. It smells decent, but the flavor takes it to the next level. A sharp, roasted coffee note is very pronounced from the first sip to the finish. This is very creamy. Hints of vanilla, roast, coffee. . mm.

Pours black with brow highlights and a creamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, and coffee with a hint of licorice. Chocolate flavor with some roasted malt and coffee. Really nice beer.
