COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The quintessential General Lafayette Inn brew, we carry on the tradition at the Crow of producing this rich, flavorful dark ale. Call it a Porter, call it a Stout, we call it delicious. Chocolate, coffee, and roasted flavors blend with an uncanny drinkability in this local legend.

UPDATED: APR 10, 2008 Looks just like the regular CT. Black with small tan head. Chocolate, dark roasted malt, and wood is the aroma. The taste is just like the regular version but has a weird chalky ask after taste.
Earlier Rating: 2/11/2007 Total Score: 3.8
Draft at brewpub. Black with nice tan head. Smells of dark roasted malts and chocolate. The taste was the same with nice semi sweet notes throughout. Medium body with nice roasted finish.

Bottle thanks to Zathrus13 via BMan113VR. Thick black pour. Light brown head. Nose: roasted malt, smoke, blue stone, the odd smell that exists in the north in the late evening when it is not quite snowing yet but It will be in a few hours. (Message me if you know about this!) Taste: metal, water, grapes, chocolate, meat smoke.

On cask at GL. Black as coffee with dense tan head. Rich and roasty aroma. This is a creamy and rich brew, thick. Chocolate cocoa, slightly sweet flavor with presence of alcohol. A very comforting beer.

Batch 3 Bottle - Thanks CaptainCougar! -Pours a thin black with a tiny tan head...aroma is dynomite, bitter chocolate malt, creme...flavour is great initially, dark cocoa, vanilla...it goes a bit awry at the end with an ascorbic tartness that I can only imagine is the result of a twelve malt orgy...very fun to try...

Pours a black color with a dark small head. The aroma is smoky with olives and dark fruit with some chocolate in there as well. The flavor is smoky coffee dark chocolate and a nice bitterness with some pronounced alcohol notes, complex and delicious!

Poured from a 12oz bottle. Nose is of sweet chocolate and mocha. Minimal head with some lacing, a bit frothy. Taste is toasted chocolate flavors, hints of vanilla and cream follow, continues for a minute in the finish. Very drinkable Porter, I could put back a few of these.

Bottled. Poured deep brown with a tall, dense, well-retained cap of dark tan head. The aroma picked up sweet, toasty, milky chocolates with accents of vanilla and some cocoa.. sweet and entirely desserty. The flavor found a blend of milk and lesser dark chocolates at the core.. vanilla and cocoa bitterness on the edges.. lactic sourness rolled off the edges joined by prickly carbonation and burnt earth.. just slightly vinegary at the end. Medium-bodied with way too much carbonation on the palate.. the sweetness and sourness were balanced well on the front half, but the sours took over at the end.. all in all a very tasty brew!
