A recipe recreated from restored brewing records from the 1800s. The use of traditional coloured and roasted malts gives a unique rich and luscious flavour.

Rich brown colour. Hefty toffee and crystal malt - good velvety body. Lovely hops in the finish. Nice lingering aftertaste. Excellent for 4%.

Beautiful clear dark copper body with a big close to creamy light-brown head with some big bubbles. The head is fairly long-lived but before the glass is empty the only remains are a thin film in addition to a ring of foam along the wall. Good lacing. The aroma is probably the faintest aroma from an ale I’ve ever experienced! Faint yeasty notes, faint metal and even fainter fruits are all I get. The taste is similarly faint and boring: a light sweetness with a light bitter finish, while the faint flavour is toasted with caramel and fruits. The mouthfeel is a bit thin and the finish is light metallic, but the texture is quite smooth and pleasant. Mild ale is definitely not my style.
[50 cl bottle, enjoyed 1 month after BB date, from Jacobs på Holtet, Oslo]

Mild aroma of bread, coffee, raisin, smoke. Medium sweetness, medium bitterness and lightly sour. A nice balanced beer that I would drink again.

Cask. Darker brown with a thin white head. Mild earner notes for both flavor and aroma, with some toasty maltiness and slight caramel and grass. Medium to lighter body.

On cask at The Haymarket. Pours a very dark ruby - brown colour with a decent light tan head. Aroma of Weetabix, roasty malt and chocolate. Similar flavours with moderate carbonation and a creamy mouth-feel. Lingering weetabix and a little burnt toast. Quite dry also.

On tap @ the Haymarket Bar. Pours opaque black with a red hue. The nose has biscuits and that spicy crystal malt note. The taste has more of the same. The palate is medium bodied and textured with a reasonable finish. Overall, a solid citizen.
