3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 notalush (3742) - Denver, USA - JAN 6, 2012
Tap at CK - lightly hazy golden - a simple but fairly balanced Belgian strong - some moderate cereal grain crispness - a light honey sweetness - very ligh phenols, trending toward the peppery end of the spectrum - very light banana - well-masked alcohol - a touch of sulphur through the middle is somewhat off-putting, but otherwise simple and fairly balanced - spicy finish.

Tap @ CKBC. Golden appearance with an off white head. I got a ton of pils malt elements in the aroma: light citrusy, grainy malt, and grass, along with a slight spiciness. The carbonation seemed a little overdone which along with some pepper notes from the yeast led to kind of an unpleasant mouth feel. Some citrus elements in the flavor but it again seemed dominated by grainy pils malts. Ok.

Pour on tap at the brewery, hazy yellow with thin to no head, aroma brought notes nice sweet banana, clove, biscuit notes, touch of caramel, hints of nice spice and peppery phenols, hints of tartness and a slight sharp note. Taste was a nice mix of biscuit, bready notes with a nice white pepper, banana, clove and yeast, finishing fairly dry and a bit acidic.

Clear golden yellow with some chill haze, and a thin foamy head that recedes a little fast. Smell of Belgian blond cereal malts, fruity yeast tones, and light peppery chewy grains. Nice smooth and balanced flavor with a clean linger. Flavor has fruity Belgian yeast as well as a big dose of blonde cereal grain malts. Elegant in its simplicity, big and bold in body, nice Belgo eccentricity.
