Originally called "Urquell" in German or "Prazdroj" in Czech, meaning "the original source," or the first pilsner claimed to have been ever produced. Pale in color and clear in the glass, the beer is characterized by a clean hoppy aroma, with a light finish on the end.

Tap at CK - golden pour with a soapy, lasting head - a bit of a haze to it, but I won’t hold that against it - nose of floral and grassy hops, light mineral, a slight honeyed malty quality - full in the mouth - sturdy but soft carbonation - the front end is dry, crisp and fairly bitter - a lot of grassy hop character - the middle brings a mild sweetness to balance, as the tail end and finish bring another strong punch of peppery, floral hoppiness - crisp, lingering finish - fairly bitter for a pils, and not as elegant as it could be, but nicely balanced and very tasty none-the-less - nice to have such a tasty lager made so close to home.

At Copper Kettle Brewery with Stephen. Pours yellow piss. Aroma is raw malt, malty rye notes. Taste is malty rye and malt, raw rye, chalky sweet, light earthy hops. Pretty nice.

On tap at the brewery. Pour is a beautiful golden color with a frothy white head and great lacing. Crackery, straw, spicy hoppy, biscuity, cereal, snappy, and lightly floral aroma. Taste is clean - light chalk, crackers, grass, biscuit, honey, straw, a touch of spiciness on the backend. Medium body with crisp carbonation. Super clean and refreshing. I could see myself pounding pints of this in the summer time.

On tap @ Copper Kettle. Mostly clear golden yellow pour with a white head. Lemon cleaner aroma. Sour apples, water, cracker, and paper. Meh. Flavor is grainy, lemony, and tart. Apple, solvent, and paper. Kind of watery flavor and mouthfeel. Dry cracker notes, too. Meh.

Draft at taproom. Pours yellow with a thin white head. Bit. Inch on the nose. Crisp and clean and tight on the tongue. Finishes clean with a little hop finish. Solid but only solid.

18 oz pilsner glass at the brewery. I thought this was a very impressive pilsner and I share threefourth’s opinion after looking at the low scores. Right from a few sniffs I got crisp, grassy, pungently dry hops with a clean, cracker background. The palate is spritzy and medium bodied with purposeful hop character. Plenty of dry, clean wooden and grassy bite with an immaculate malt flavor bringing dough and crackers to mind. I would put this easily in my top 5 pilsners. Glad to have the source close by.

Tap. Clear yellow with a clean white head. Smells of sweet grain and lemon-y citrus. Flavor is lemon, grain, yeast and light hop spice. Crisp, clean light bodied. Not sweet or bitter, just balanced.

On tap at Copper Kettle. Light yellow color, looks good. Smell is a little bit of mineral and earth and I think hops? Flavor definitely has a mild hint of hops and is very refreshing. Overall I enjoyed this beer quite a bit and would order it again any time I see it on tap at Copper Kettle. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 01-30-2012 03:04:40

Pour on tap at the brewery, clear yellow/slightly orange with white head, aroma brought notes of spicy and floral hops, some sweet biscuit, cracker and bready notes, touch of earthy, grain, and nice grassy notes. Taste is nice spicy hops, some floral and grassy notes go into sweet honey and biscuit, bready grains, some slight earth and bitter grain, finishing fairly dry and clean. Pretty nice.

draft. tight, snappy and rigid texture; exceptionally well balanced by all measures: medium-low sweetness, medium-high bitterness, medium acid. light dough and baked cracker pilsner malt is presented without either coarseness or syrupiness. light to medium hop rate and light body are well-match, and the malt is full-flavored. mild fruit esters dance with doughy yeast and clean, moderately sweet honey cracker malt. as it warms there’s a mild grain and green sprouted garlic character but it’s very soft and subdued and doesn’t spoil the splendor. vibrant and clean pilsner malt with perfectly matched hop-rate, good carbonation release, a little bit of snaz and spritz and life in there. very well made and ranking up there with the best American renditions of Czech Pilsner. for those who have tasted the true beauty of czech lager and have a good appreciation for the nuance and subtlety of pils, as well as a love for just how good clean and vibrant pilsner malt can be, this is sure to please. meaning this should get a good amount of high-2’s and low-3’s from the American beer drinkers raised to think of anything pale as simple and poorly made.

On tap at Copper Kettle poured a clear gold with a small lingering white head. Aromas of straw, citrus and light earthiness. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, earthiness and a hint of citrus with a crisp dry finish.
