A dry black ale with dark roasted malt flavors blended with bittersweet chocolate, red Mexican chili peppers, and ground cinnamon for an exotic punch on the palate. Inspired by a 500 year old Aztec recipe for Mexican hot chocolate.

At Copper Kettle Brewery with Stephen. Pours black with grey tan head. Aroma is huge chili, toffee, burnt malt. Taste is searing chili pepper, cocoa powder, nutty roasted malt. Caramel.

Tap at the source. Pours opaque coffee with thin off white head. Smells of cinnamon, Chile, and roasted malt. Drinks with a spicy bite and mild lingering bitterness. Medium bodied. Tastes of cinnamon foremost with Chile, chocolate, and coffee flavors. Dry, spicy finish.

Chile notes are more like pepper than cinnamon. Initial taste is spicy but quickly cools to a smooth chocolate creaminess.

Inky black with quickly fleeting brown head. Thinner mouthfeel than expected, but it makes it more drinkable. Nice chocolate nose...pretty much typical stout. Flavor is another matter! Really nice cinnamon and chili flavors. Leaves a nice burn. Complex and so tasty! Yum!

bottle. medium to fuller bodied black pour. Spicy & packs some heat. Chocolate cake, cinnamon with hot pepper heat that lingers. Kept coming back for more. Enjoyable

Not typically a fan of additive beers, but they’ve got something here, with room to further evolve. The cinnamon is front-end and the heat is bold and comes in on the back end...that part of it’s genius. My only issue is the stout component itself; pretty thin, flat-line recipe. They’d do well to counterpoint the eventual add of heat and spice by starting with a richer, more complicated stout execution. Again, no issues with the heat and spice part of the deal; that element is nailed at an elite level.

Bottle share. Aroma is chocolate and spicy. Appearance is a dark brown with tan head. Taste is spicy and earthy. Some sweetness at the end, but almost tastes kinda like plastic. Palate is spicy. Overall, an interesting beer. The dryness is kinda of putting. I would pass on this next time. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I see the potential but got an over carbonated bottle that ruins the mouth feel. Pours black with a tan head. Weird pepper aroma and that’s all. Nice chocolate then green pepper then heat in the back of throat. The mouth feel ruins this one but willing to try it out again if this is just an isolated issue.

The bottle of this I paid for exploded on me, as in bottle bomb. Some obvious QA issues. Got another comped where I bought it...(Thanks, Mondo Vino!) And drank it next day before I could be woken up again at 4 am to glass shards and stout on the walls. Deep brown with translucent edges. Medium carbonation. Nose of dusty red chilies, baking cocoa, dark roasted malt. Taste follows..lots of cayanne like chili heat, then some dark, dusty chocolate. Very smooth, but too spicy. Back notes say good with waffles and mole. Mole would be terrible..double down on spice and this is too hot for that, but I could see waffles with a lot of whipped cream to cut the heat being awesome.
