A real sweet and hoppy bitterr IPA. The bourbon barrel flavor is pretty overt and takes away from the fantastic balance. I prefer the non barrel age version.

Tap. Pours lightly hazy pale orange with a medium, frothy white head with medium retention and good lacing. Aroma is soft tropical fruity esters with cookie and biscuit malt with pine, citrus and herbal hops, vanilla and oak. Flavor is heavy hops and medium bitterness with soft oak, bourbon and vanilla with sweet malt and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Tap @ Copper Kettle. Pours a fairly clear, dark orange appearance with a cream colored head. Toasted malty, a bit nutty, orange fruity, somewhat oaky, a bit herbal aroma. Slightly boozy, toffee, coconut, rich vanilla woody, somewhat floral, citrusy flavor. The oak notes really came out nicely.

UPDATED: FEB 12, 2013 Tap at CK - I am normally not a fan of oak aged IPAs, as the barrel tends to rob the beer of it’s vibrancy - this, however, is a bit of a different story - the oak is very mild, adding only a hint of wood and vanilla - the hops are still bright, peppery, lightly citric - light coconut in the finish compliments the more tropical hop notes - quite nice.

On tap at the brewery, very strong whiskey aroma, hoppy front with a fantastic whiskey smooth finish

Hazy bronzen amber with a thin white head. Sweet nose of vanilla and oak covered with some grapefruity and mango hoppiness. Flavor has a lovely mix of citrusy IPA and light bourbon oakiness. The flavor starts nice and big with a big caramalt backbone, melding quickly into some grapefruit rind and oak and vanilla with a little not-too-boozy bourbon tone, a little not-sweet molasses (just a little), with a warm sweet tropical and bourbony finish. Pretty neat.
