When naming this Baltic porter, a collaboration with Tampaís famed Cigar City Brewing, we opted for Jurata as a nod to a mythological mermaid known to roam the depths of the Baltic Sea, just as energetic yeast used to brew this deep dark beer navigated our fermentation tanks. Dive in and enjoy Jurataís true-to-style rich and complex flavors!

Bottle. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average frothy tan head that mostly lasted and produced excellent lacing. Moderate roasted dark malt aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted dark sweet flavor with a medium dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is the very good brew.

Bomber poured into a pint glass. Pours a deep black, with a big tan head which slowly fades and leaves good lacing. Nose is dark malt. Taste is predominantly dark malt, with some smokiness. Carbonation is a bit high. A good example of the style. Finish is clean and long-lasting.

Pours a dark brown with hints of black. Tons of lacing as the head recedes. Smells almost like a milk stout. Notes of sweet chocolate. The taste adds a touch of smoke to the equation which tones down that milk chocolate domination and the carbonation really helps in that regard as well. Hint of cigar in there too. With a touch less sweetness would be rated even higher.

Was hoping for more from this beer ok but not great. Beer is better as it warms up to room temp. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 ounce bottle. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch light tan head that sticked around a while. Thereís a good amount of lacing. The aroma is nice, it smells like roasted malt, milk and bittersweet chocolate, molasses, and some nuts. The taste is similar to the aroma, but thereís the addition of some coffee, burnt/charred malt and a bit of dark fruit. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, itís a little creamy and slick with a lot of carbonation. Itís still easy to drink, but Iíd like it more if the carbonation would have been lowered some. I liked this brew, might have to pick up another bottle soon. Definitely worth a try. $7.99 a bomber.

Bottle. Guinness pint glass. Served a little chilled and let come up in temperature. Pours deep mahogany, with a deep red hue at rim. Subtle aromas of chocolate, coffee, and sweet ash. Mouthfeel is creamy, with fine carbonation and semi-watery, medium body. Flavors of dark chocolate and ASH dominate the finish. Mild lingering finish. A good porter for food. Overall, not a powerhouse.. more of a balanced, easy-drinking, well crafted, standard porter. 8% alc is unnoticeable on palate. Not bad, though nothing crazy. No complaints for price.. Simple and straightforward. --- tasted while on a long journey to understand the world around me...

Tap at beer study. Pours dark brown with a fast fading tan head. Nose is roasty, dark fruit, light bakers choc. Similar flavor. Just okay overall.8

Bottle, from Triangle Wine, Morrisville. Ok aroma, sweet. Cocoa, nutty, kind of malted milk. Dark orangey brown color, good head and lace. Sweet flavor. Heavy body, creamy mouthfeel, bitter sweet finish. Itís good, not offensive, but not wowing me either, aroma, has all the callings of a big Baltic, but comes in on the sweet side of things, little more of the yeast coming through on the aroma as it warms. A lot more of a regular Porter coming through, but you feel the abv and mouthfeel has the weight of a bigger beer

Draft at ridgewood. No aroma at all. Black as night. Mild taste. A meh in my book. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I really enjoyed this beer. Pours a deep black with a bit of a foamy head that lasts a bit longer than others of the same style. The aroma is standard porter with some chocolate and malts. But the big winner here is the taste. Dark malts, caramel, chocolate and fairly sweet. This is all perfectly balanced to produce a porter that is near perfect to style. I will probably seek this out at my local bottle shop and put in a cellar for a few months to see how it ages.
