When naming this Baltic porter, a collaboration with Tampaís famed Cigar City Brewing, we opted for Jurata as a nod to a mythological mermaid known to roam the depths of the Baltic Sea, just as energetic yeast used to brew this deep dark beer navigated our fermentation tanks. Dive in and enjoy Jurataís true-to-style rich and complex flavors!

Draught at St. Augustineís, Vancouver; 414ml
Dark brown color, served with no head. Aroma of dark malts, cocoa powder, impression of chemicals (phenol). Lean body, despite the high initial gravity; the flavor focuses too much in dark caramel, with a clear presence of heavily roasted nuts in the final; light residual sweetness. Rather simple in its conception.
Itís a decent beer, but I regret getting a large glass of it.

On tap at St. Augustineís, pours jet black with a small tan head. Nose brings out rich notes of chocolate upfront, followed by roast and some dry cocoa powder. Flavour is similar, bringing out a rich balanced palate of cocoa powder and roasted malt, with a touch of coffee and even smaller touch of vanilla. Robust and impeccably balanced big beer. Excellent.

Draft - Dark chocolate and roast. Jet deep brown with a light brown head. Dark roast and chocolate with a syrupy chocolate bitterness. Roasty and nice, but none of the dark fruit I hoped for.

Pours a thin head on a black body. The aroma is rich caramel, cinnamon, wood and salt. The taste is bitter-sweet black coffee, roasted malt, caramel and burnt sugar. Nice. The texture is thick. A superb porter.
