CBC and our fellow islanders at Maui Brewing Co are bridging the distance from Hawaii to the mainland with big flavor, camaraderie, and generosity. This centennial, chinook, and nugget-stoked IPA, made floral with the addition of hibiscus flower, is the first of an annual series of collaborative beers benefiting local charities. This time around, a donation will be made to Beer for Boobs, a Susan G Komen 3-day team formed by San Diego company White Labs, who contributed the yeast for this brew. No matter which side of the Pacific you’re on, there’s no better reason to " Drink Pink!"

Bottle, shared with Parksy and Grippitis. Medium orange, lightly hazy. Lovely perfumey hibiscus floral notes carry the nosf and palate. Biscuit malts provide support. The finish gives way to late bitterness, allowing the delicate florals to shine. A nuanced IPA, not a hopheads delight, and certainly not a bitter bomb, but a lovely brew nonetheless.

Bottle to glass. Pours a clear amber color with a moderate off-white head. Aroma is mostly floral/grassy hops. Flavor is mostly grassy and a mild bitter. Light in body. Leaves a funky aftertaste. Drinkable but not sure how I feel about it.

Hazy amber beer, good white head. Palate is light, dry and minerally crisp. Light airy malt. There is a nice tangy fruit sherbet zing here, it really tantalises the tongue! Hibiscus fruits balance nicely with mildly skunky hops. Little pine. Finishes soft and semi dry with more sherbet zing. Love the sherbet! Light and very refreshing.

22oz bottle, Stone brewing type label. Orange color, light pink hue. Aroma is awesome. Huge florals, sweet tropical flower nectar scent. Flavor is of an IPA. Pale malts, bitter PNW hops. Kinda mild, nothing wowwing. (3885)

Bottle from Capitol Beer, Sacramento. Pours orange copper with an attractive pink-tinged beige head and a floral citrus aroma. There is a perfumy caramel malt flavor with a moderately bitter hop finish.

Had this one on tap at The Local as a free pour from a nice bartender (just 2 oz.). Pours a golden orange with a bit of a pink hue, with a fluffy white head on top. Aroma is very floral, as expected, with hibiscus definitely there alongside some tropical fruits. Flavor is vegetal hops and a light hibiscus influence that makes this finish nicely clean. The hibiscus lingers on the palate and is rather refreshing. Light body and very easy drinking. Would go well on a hot summer day.

Bomber from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours translucent copper with a foamy white head. Aroma is very citrus/floral. Hint of caramel. Med body or better. Flavor starts somewhat earthy, moves on to spicy, then maybe some citrus. I can imagine Hibiscus - cause there is a perfumey/floral note. It’s dry, bitter and a real mouth grabber. All this at only 4.9%? Mirabile dictu!
