Pours espresso black/brown. Nose is quite hoppy, good pine and citrus character. Taste is very impressive, one of the better black ipas I have had. Hint of roast, but almost all standard IPA flavors, great hop character, resinous, pine, grapefruit zest, and dry finish.

Draught at Galbraiths Alehouse (Auckland, NZ). TimE has got it spot on. Very much in the stout style, quite dry and roasty, and the hops are subtle. But I don’t think it is poorer for it, probably increases it drinkability at 7%. Maybe not a "Black IPA", but it is what it is...

Rating from memory last week. What I distinctly remember is that the beer is waaaayyy to much like a stout and there was definitely not enough hops to balance things out. Tons of roasty character with on glimpses of West Coast hops. Overall, it was rather mundane and I wouldn’t order another one, but certainly not a bad beer.

growler-pours a big foamy/rich brown head with heavy lacing and black color. Aroma is pine/resin/citrus-lemon, dark malt-roasty. Taste is resin/metallic/acrid hops bite, secondary roasty dark malt. Drying/quick finish.

pint on tap at urge gastropub. had it a couple weeks back and again today and i must say it was a bit poorer quality this time around. 1 deep brown finger of head. smell of bitter hops with roasted malts and some light chocolate. IBUs are probably in the 70’s if i had to guess so not amazing. 2nd pint tasted like the same batch but somehow aged poorly. not sure if BIPAs aren’t suppose to be aged or not. first time was 8 and second was 7 out of 10. overall none the less a quite tasty beer

Pours a cola brown with a tan head and great lacing! Aroma of hops, pine and citrus. Flavor has toasted malt, hint of chocolate, and hops, citrus and pine. Creamy mouth feel. Very nice beer!

Draft. Black beer with a brown head. Big grapefruit/summer fruit aroma. Grapefruit and roast flavor with light coffee. Medium bodied. Grapefruit and light roast lingers with light coffee.

Served on tap at Downtown Johnny Browns. The appearance is a deep cola brown to black. A good amount of chocolate, a bit roasty, on the nose with a very nice grapefruit bitterness as well. The flavors are floral hops, citrus, nice mild coffee, a decent malt balance. The mouth is medium to full bodied with a moderate carbonation. A solid brew from Coronado.

Tap @ Johnny Brown’s. Pours a deep coffee brown with a creamy beige head. Nice piny nose with some lightly roasted malts in the background. Finish was roasty, bitter and very drinkable.

Looks good, feels good, smells ok, tastes not that great. Pours dark brown/black with a big, creamy, light brown head that leaves lots of lace. Smells mostly roasty with a hint, hint of earthy hops. Tastes of roasted malts, hint of chocolate, chalk, and finishes with a hint of citrusy hops. I would have called it a hoppy porter. Nice, full body, smooth with nice carbonation.
