COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When we opened our doors 17 years ago, imposing India Pale Ales didn’t even have a style name, but thanks to the bravaddo and ingenuity of American craft brewers, ourselves included, the "Imperial IPA" has grown into one of the most coveted and delicious styles of beer around and one we feel is perfectly suited to serve as this year’s anniversary beer. A quintet of hops--Citra, Green Bullet, Pacific Gem, Pacific Jade, and Wakatu--lend a spicy tropical spike balanced out by clean breadiness on the finish. It makes for the perfect specialty ale to toast to 17 years of brewing immensely flavorful beers. Prost!

650ml,bottle purchased at tamarak liquors in rocky mountain house, alberta. Hazy golden/orange pour, with a large rocky, sticky beige head. Thick aroma of spruce needles, candied citrus peel, sticky, bitter grapefruit pith, and some typical hoppy soapiness. The mouth feel is thick, and the carb is low, but effective. The finish is very bitter, highly bitter. Big pithy citrus notes, with thick pine resins. This bottle is old, but its holding up quite nicely.

Hoppy, tropical aroma. Tastes the same, has a slightly odd aftertaste but still really good. 2nd best Coronado offering I have tried

clear golden orange, a touch of haze, with a frothy two-finger head and wonderful lace. Somewhat muted aromas of tropical fruit, grassy hops and bready malts. Flavors are much stronger as the hop bitterness hits hard up front, with accents of mango, pine and citrus poking through a solid biscuity/bready malt sweetness. Medium body, generously carbonated, creamy smooth mouthfeel, and a crisp bitterness in the finish.

At just on cool and into a snifter. Pastel orange, misty, with a fine bead and tight, compact white head. Strangely candyish, pear drop and lychee, star-fruit and cumquat edged nose initially. Hints at pine sap, marmalade, butterscotch and fresh baked bread afterwards. Unexpectedly subdued on the palate. Quite light, soft, delicate, with a warmth that meets its 9.5% ABV. Juicy fruit; drawing, tangy citrus with a lush sweetness that fades to a dry finish. Moderate peak; more fruit than hop with a tight bitterness before a citric swallow and heat of alcohol. Tangy peach and apricot comes in as it heats up in the hands. Gradually grew on me, but didn’t exactly sparkle. A refreshing high alcohol APA, but not a DIPA. Pours a slightly hazy orange gold with one finger of loose white head diminishing to a thin skim and heavy lacing. Nose is robust, pine resin and citrus, tropical fruit and faint malt and a little earthy dankness. Taste is similar but less sharp than suggested by the nose, mango and grassy hops, but overlaid with orange marmalade and a slightly buttery tone. Mouth feel is medium and creamy, with a lingering bitter finish. Decent DIPA with a lot of classic West Coast character.

Bomber purchased at Escondido BevMo ($6.99). Pours a hazy golden-orange hue with one finger of off-white foam leaving moderate lacing. AROMA of quite spicy hops, salty citrus (lime, navel), herb garden, and some bready malts. FLAVOR of more big spicy hops, tropical and stone fruits, spruce, and caramel malts. Finishes with a bit of tropical fruity sweetness but little bitterness. The high ABV is quite well concealed. I actually bought this about six months ago and just now got around to drinking it. I love the New Zealand hops and this has four of them...should have opened it sooner as I fear the more tropical fruit elements of the hops may have faded somewhat (my fault). Even with the inadvertent aging, still a tasty DIPA. (67, 849)

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours veyr bright orange with a small white cap which quickly disappears. Nose is very orange forward with large grapefruit, dank and mango. Taste is very citrus and tropical forward stuff, heavy dank, slight resin and sweet toffee biscuit. Nice kick of spice on the finish. ABV hidden well. Drinks well. A good drop

Pours orange/amber with a large white head. Nose shows sweet malt, booze, pine and some sweet passion fruit and orange marmalade too. Similar flavours, lots of sweet clean malt but lots of piny, resinous hops and a little pear and lychee too. Could use a bit more carbonation.

Bottle from mane liquor. Pours a cloudy prance with fluffy white head. Nose shows sweet fruit orange, apricot and peach, as well as a slight honey note. Taste is sweet and bitter. Candied fruits, bitter hops and a solid malt backbone. Finishes with a slightly resinous feel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Rich deep orange and light copper coloured body with a thick, four centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of rich hops coupled with a ton of sugars and citrus notes - strong and potent. Full-bodied; Chewy hop and malt flavours at first with a definite emphasis on sugars and citrus components with the hops very grapefruity and citrus all with a sweet and chewy malt flavour. Aftertaste is rich and strong with alcohol notes, some light citrus and herbs coming out as well as the rich, resinous hops. Overall, a nice imperial IPA with a strong finish and unfortunately still showing a lot of alcohol burn. I sampled this 65 cxL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida on 28-December-2013 for US$7.99 sampled with friends on New Years Eve 2013 in Orlando, Florida.
