Bottle at a tasting at James’ place. Pours a hazed ruby brown amber with a medium beige tan head. Cocoa and chocolate, warm vanilla and wood. Medium to thick body, warm and smooth, a touch of sweetness and a bit of oxidization. Sweet and toasty, warm wood and more vanilla and sweetness. Very nice for a style I don’t like much.

22oz bottle from Whole Foods in San Diego I believe. Pours a dark amber color with a tan head. Aroma is caramel, bready, bourbon, and wood. Taste is sweet with some head. Medium bodied and sticky texture. Good!

2011 bottle shared by bsuedekum- thanks again, Blake! Pours a hazy plum brown color with a minimal head but some big beige bubbles on top. Notes of oak, brandy, figs, prunes, brown sugar, caramel, coconut, and honey. Medium-bodied, with a syrupy mouthfeel and modest carbonation. Good BA barleywine.

BARLEYWINEO (106) - Tacoma, USA - APR 28, 2012
A: Poured an amber color with good carbonation leaving a light dirty white cap S: That distinctive toofee, caramel like smell with some pine needles T/M: Mostly toffee and caramel with some Earthiness and wood. Some pine needles, lightly acidic and a subtle hop bitterness on the end. I really detcted no honey but felt it on the mouthfeel as it kept it sticky sweet and weighed on the tongue a bit. O: Good

Courtesy of dcschiller and peteinSD. Pours murky brown with amber hues and thin off white head. The aroma is smooth malts, smooth oak and caramel as well as light amounts of dark fruity esters. The taste has sweet dark fruity esters quickly sliding into sweet molasses, toffee and smooth subtle sweet bourbon and booze. Behind those notes I get a bit of vanilla and coconut sweetness. This is smooth and yummy with sweet dark fruity esters sending it into the finish.

Bottle with illegible date code... on any of the 4 bottles I bought from the original batch. Late 2011 is the answer. Pours with a large tan head that lasts and leaves good lace over a messy, muddy deep brown body. Oddly murky. Good overall retention. Aromas are huge on toffee, brandy, brandy, stewed/spiced apple, candied dates, musty, molasses, booze, rich wood, persimmon christmas cake, figs, tons of dark fruits, vanillin, alcohol, mild peppery, chewy and mild chocolate. Even more complex on the flavor which starts with milk chocolate, nougat, fig, dark fruits, candied dates, barrel, brandy, dry, molasses, light leather, vanillin, wood, a touch of roast, creme de casiss. Really a HUGE duration. A bit tea like. Very smooth alcohol, mild marmalade, raisins, rich brandy. Feels big, but not as full bodied as expected. Rich, warming, creamy, smooth. Not brash at all, just a very good and somewhat balanced beer. Medium tannins. More tannins as it warms. The more and I drank and it warmed the more I appreciated it. It gets better and more complex. An elegant offering from Coronado!

Think this one was supplied by Dak @ Woodshed 1.0! Really surprised by this one...deep molasses, loads of toffee, and thick caramel accompanied by oak, vanilla, brandy, and dark fruit. Really sweet but not at all cloying the ABV is hidden. Chew on some granulated brown sugar and you’ve tasted this...remarkable really!
