Sample at Stone. This brew is a clear copper color with a medium and fluffy white head that dissipates slowly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, hops and grass. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter with grassy hops, citrus and light malt flavors. Slight spice and yeast are present as well. The finish is hoppy and leaves a mild spice and hops aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

golden color, moderately hoppy. Good body, but certainly doesn’t take me anywhere special. Dry

Draught, two tries, both pretty different, points are an average Red amber to pale ochre with some haze under an ultra-thin head, leaving lace somehow. Banana ester, phenols, Lapsan Souchong tea and dry, ureumholding hops. First sample full of phenols, less hops, and slighlty smoked, retronasal some caramel; second sample very bitter, seriously dry and a long flowing main taste: bitter and malt cookies. Medium bodied, slightly harsh in the palate, the phenolic sample giving some caramelfeel. Strange - bit crude, and, once more, very un-Belgian.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2005 (Draft: Coronado Brewing Co. in Coronado, CA) I love Halloween. It gives the San Diego chicks a day when they can dress like skanky ho’ sluts and claim it’s just their costume. I drove to Coronado Brewing this Halloween evening specifically to try their Hoppy Daze IPA because it was supposed to be one of their best brews. Bad news: Like the rest of their swill, it’s not that good a beer either. Good news: All the waitresses were dressed like skanky ho’ sluts. I’ll take that tradeoff any day of the year. Anyway, on to the beer... The sign on the wall says this is a "Double Island Pale Ale", so I guess they think this is a double IPA? As If!!! This is really nothing more than a basic IPA. It is hoppy and fairly bitter, sweet, mildly malty, but the carbonation level is so cranked up, it’s hard to taste any of the subtle flavors, if there are any. But the malt is so light, the moderate bitterness dominates, when in fact, it needs more of everything to be a double IPA. And it’s amazing how little aroma there is to this hoppy beer. Some hoppiness here, and perhaps some light honey is in the nose as well. Pours amber in color, but with absolutely no head, though a few off-white bubbles congregate near the edge. I came here to try this beer, and I’m really disappointed. But at least the skanky ho’ sluts looked hot! I love San Diego...<hr>(Draft: Liars’ Club in San Diego, CA) Okay, so what’s the deal? Maybe it’s been aging a bit, dunno, or maybe my expectations are considerably lower, but trying this beer again, this is one of the few Coronado beers I’ve had that isn’t sugary sweet. In fact, this time around, I’d say this is a quality beer. Moderately sweet and malty, well balanced by a moderately bitter hops with a hint of grapefruit. Nose of sweet, grapefruity hops. Medium to full bodied with a nice, full mouthfeel, and it’s not overcarbonated like the last time. Small, off-white head might have shown some retention, but I knocked the uneven table and spilled a few ounces of beer. Some spotty lacing. But let’s not kid ourselves, it’s still not a 2IPA. Hhowever if you think of it as a regular IPA, it’s pretty nice. Ratings are for this session.

Now this is a unique brew. Aroma was hoppy, a mellow sweetness, and actually a very, very slight skunkiness. Classic looking brew when poured. Light amber with a thick foam head. A strange combination of malts and hops makes for an unusual brew. Pleasantly sweet and bitter, with the bike of an IPA. Pretty pricey but good for an occassional treat.

Bomber courtesy of DarkElf. Pours copper with a white head. Smells of resin, citrus, earth, some sweet malt, doughy. Tastes of citrus, resin, dry malt, some touches of pepper, light tartness also there. Finish yields some spicy resin.

On tap @ Blue Palms--where are you Chris?!? :) Slightly hazy golden with a one finger off-white creamy head, fair retention. Aroma of passionfruit, dank weed (I agree Chris), some spicy Belgian yeast. Flavor continues with the herbal dankness and sweet fruitiness, and the hops have a bit of trouble keeping it balanced. Lotta sweetness going on. Even picks up a bubblegummy note. Bitterness peaks @ 3-4 in the finish. Low carbonation gives this a heavier than I wanted full body. Bartender told me this batch was dry-hopped with Santium.

650ml bomber listed at 7.5%ABV on the bottle pours a golden orange color with a finger of white head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is pleasant with citrus and grains with hints of yeast. Taste is a citrus hoppy bitterness with a cereal grainy malt sweetness with a yeasty dry finish. Although, the addition of Belgian yeast strains add a unique and interesting profile to this brew, this is not one of my favorite IPA’s. However, this does make for a good session ale, as it is an easy to drink ale.

On tap pours clear gold with good white head and nice lacing. Ok hop aroma with no malt backbone to follow up. Bittering is good with little flavor hops and again no malt to balance. A clean IPA, but no way is it a Double IPA.

Bottle thanks to mar. The look is a fizzy white head. Yellow to golden in color. The smell is banana, hops, citrus, slight prune, and orange. The taste is low bitterness, fruits, hops, and slight yeast.
