Beerlando (1130), Orlando, Florida, USA May 3, 2008 Pours a clear, brassy amber color with a dense, spongy, off-white head. Thick, splotchy rings of lacing appear as though they are etched into the glass. The nose is unique, showing heaps of the requisite citrus hops (both orange and grapefruit), apricots, light candy sugar, and a touch of medicinal alcohol. The unique part comes in the form of a very dry, toasty, bread-like yeast not commonly found in American IPAs. Similarly, the flavor marches to its own drummer. Definitely very hoppy and citrus driven, the yeasty notes set this one apart. Purely Belgian in style, the yeast is very dry, spicy, and toasty. Medium-full bodied and smooth, this one finishes very dry for the style, with lingering spicy bitterness. It feels like a West Coast IPA crashed head on with a Belgian IPA. The result is unique and highly drinkable, but not exceedingly impressive.
nightrider (220), encinitas, California, USA Jul 5, 2008 Golden ale with a white good head. Aroma of belgian yeast, lemon and cloves. Medium smooth mouthfeel with a bit of carbonation .Flavors of differing bitter hop flavor and some nice sweetness. Pretty nice flavor retention. Good brew. sloth (1480), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA Jul 5, 2008 Pours a small offwhite head thats short lived, lacing is minimal. Gold, light copper hued ale. Nose is lightly fruity, citrusy with some light tropical notes, mango and some hints of bananna. Body is medium, lightly oily, lightly juicey and resiny. Lotta fruity flavors, pineapple, peach, apple, lightly sweet caramel malts, citrus and a touch bready, doughy. Finish is a touch sweet and fruity. Thanks to SDbruboy for the bomber. Cliff,, you da man! SDalkoholic (1000), Chula Vista, California, USA Jun 30, 2008 22 oz bottle from South Bay Drugs. As I cracked the cap off, I could begin to smell a fair serving of west coast hops and notes of citrus. Appeared as a vibrant golden hue with small sign of sediment and a small layer of foam. The flavor is a strong delivery of citrus westcoast hops that just over bear the bitter part of my tongue, but that’s okay since its giving a touch of alcohol that ordinary IPA’s wouldn’t be able too. DenverLogan (407), Oceanside, California, USA Jun 12, 2008 Copper-amber color...small, lingering head. Big refreshing aroma of big hops & spritzy pine. Big taste of grapefruit, white pepper, lemon rind, slight sweetness, and a big bitter finish...ayieee!! Ibrew2or3 (1566), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Jun 6, 2008 Bomber pours deep gold with white head. The aroma is full and loaded with grapefruit tartness and sweet tangelo along with a hint of malt sweetness in the background. The taste is fresh, bright and refreshing and doesn’t lead on at all to the label stated ABV. I get sweet malts that quickly bleed into a load of grapefruit hops and tangelo. Very nice experience. The Belgian yeast approach compliments the late addition hop flavor and sweet malts nicely. Yum. It has a somewhat dry finish.
