The taste starts quite acidic and fruity before a mild dose of pale malts and caramel comes about. Yeasty and a tad wheaty before a moderately spicy and herbal finish. The mouth feel is slightly sharp and lively, chalky ashy finish did lessen the enjoyment however.

On tap at Battleship. Pours a very cloudy golden color with a white head. Good lacing demonstrates good head retention. Aroma is loaded with citrus and pine hops. Clean, crisp pine presence up front that quickly yields to raw oat flavor. Leaves a more malty and less hoppy finish for a DIPA. Not bad.

On tap at O’Connors (Belgian style ipa, 7,5%). Golden with white head. Aroma with loads of coriander, light and fresh with flowery notes. Taste has heavy coriander, medium sweet malt notes with a marked bitterness.

This was on tap. Poured a golden color with a nice frothy head. Strong citrus notes with well balanced hops. Very big Belgian influence.

Draft at Pony Bar. Pours golden orange with a white head. Fruity, almost peachy, with moderate bitterness, and some fruity estery yeasty notes, followed by a fruity and moderately bitter hoppy finish. Not bad.

PorterPounder (5199) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAR 7, 2014
Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - Betton - 22 oz bomber. Pours a slightly hazy medium golden with a light but productive white head that leaves plenty of lacing. Aroma has some cake mix and yeasty accents with a . splash of bubble gum. Flavor is full-bodied and thick with a sweet bent to it. Pick up some candii sugar notes typically found in a Belgian, some light citrus bittersweet notes and a yeasty back end. Thickish mouthfeel. Not bad at all.

Tap at O’Briens. Surprised this is a DIPA, higher abv than I would have guessed and also less aromatic and flavorful than I’d hoped. Pours a hazy gold with thin head. Aroma is grass, pine and some odd spices. Nothing bad about this but unimpressive.

Poured from a twenty-two ounce bottle into a New Belgium stemmed goblet. An expectation of a Belgian-style IPA is that a thick head will mount from the very first drop, however this was not the case. To gain the miniscule skein of head, the pour required a surprising amount of elevation, which was in vain as it faded quickly. Lacing stuck sadly to the sides of the glass like festooned birthday streamers the morning after the party. Highly floral aromas of deciduous tree, lilies, palm frond, white currant, and dried lavender could be obtained by near submerging a nostril, but the excitement for unique and pleasing aromatics is quickly quashed by the truly disappointing palate. A medley of the subterranean fills the tongue in the form of sesame seed, birch bark, wet soil, and scorched honey. The texture comes across as overly carbonated, which, along with the discordant taste, creates a feeling that the cheeks and tongue are being pulled back into the throat with every sip. Had promise, but unfortunately the harshly bitter finish disarms drinkability and recommendation.

phaleslu (5875) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 17, 2014
Draft at Appalachian Vintner for RBWG. Pours a bright, hazy pale gold with a small white head. Aroma of pale malts, grassy hops, pine, coriander-like herbs, and wheat. Flavor of sweet malts, straw, herbs, citrus, and vanilla. Light-medium bodied, with medium carbonation and a sweet, malty, bready mouthfeel. Decent DIPA but didn’t make much of an impression.
