3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dark copper color into snifter, 1 finger head that diminishes..Sweet malty aroma, with notes of piney, citrus goodness, expecting a noticeable booziness to this from the nose and yes it is there in the finish..taste and mouthfeel were a bit of a letdown from the solid color and aroma, mouthfeel is a bit off in my book..decent nothing memorable...

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Amber with a clear body and a really impressive large, lasting, frothy white head. Nose is light to moderate US hop bitterness, pine, grass, lemon, mango and a waft of brioche. Hop bitterness really ramps up in the middle along with some lightish caramel malt. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. More heavy hop bitterness in the long finish.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
In short: A clean and well balanced fruity and grassy pale IPA. Good.
How: From a bottle at Mondial De La Bière 2012
The look: Mostly cloudy orange body topped by a medium beige head with good retention
In long: Nose is sweet orange peels, aromatic flowery and grassy hops. This is an inviting aroma. Taste has a whole lot of crunchy semi-toasted cereals, fresh refreshing mandarines, dried oranges. A bit sugary sweet on the attack but enough hops to balance it out. This is not a hop bomb, this is a well balanced IPA. Finish is medium bitter, medium dry with an after taste of orange peels and fresh green grass. A light alcohol bite but nothing really bothersome. Not a Double IPA I could session (a little too sugary and boozy) but this is nonetheless an above average example of the style. And I think that labelling “Idiot” the fruit of your labor is pretty mean coming from Coronado Brewing and my mother.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Big bottle split with Matt at the house in Kaua’i. orange-gold with a piled off white collar. Bagful of stuff nose: Pernod and black, peaches, chocolate orange, dense leafiness, jellied orange, Pimms with mint. Soapy, floral peach and Terry’s choc orange in the mouth; lavender, husk. Pretty intense, a touch peachy, a fair bit going on. Lemon oil bitterness. Pairs well with a bag of chilled mint M+Ms I find.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz bottle in San Diego, although I’ve had it on tap (better!) even at the brewery. Pours a perfect orange, very clear for DIPA, with a rocky off-white head that sticks around and laces the glass nicely. Aroma is fearsome with cloyingly sweet caramel malt but accompanied with lots of citrus and some resinous hops. A taste puts my "overly sweet" concerns at ease with its bold bitterness, solid biscuit-and-toast malt backbone, and good carbonation to offset the sweet crystal malt. Citrus hops abound with some pine resin floating through the flavors as well. Again, the carbonation really helps to save the day by accentuating the sharper bittering hops. The body is full and indicative of its 8.5% ABV; there is some alcoholic warmth although it doesn’t get in the way. All in all, this is a fine DIPA and worthy of repeating many times ... just not sequentially in the same evening!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a clear golden amber with thick white lacings. Orange, grapefruit, and melon on the nose. Some sweet caramel is quickly replaced by citrus and resin. Bitterness kicks in and the beer finishes clean and dry. Nice.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at Moriartys. Amber pour with a foamy lacey white head. Slight funk to the hops. Gentle rum sugarness. Mostly bitter citrus notes. Bigger alcohol taste than expected. Feels a bit watery yet has a creamy finish. Not bad, per se, but, upon reflection, I simply was not a fan of the taste. Chose not to finish it. Might feel differently if I have it again.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a hazy golden amber on tap with a frothy white head and good lacing. Aroma of hops, sweet malts and caramel. Taste is similar, with creamy mouthfeel and good balance for the amount of hops and alcohol. Very nice.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours deep amber into a Sam glass. Off-white micro head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Hot, earthy treacle aromas. Thick with sweet caramel and honey upfront turning to hot resin in the lasting finish.
