Oakes (6784), Miami Beach, Florida, USA May 11, 2008 Orangey-amber colour. Mango, simcoe nose with yuzu and chewy malts. Strong, but with a sweet hop fruitiness. Very bright. Lots of citrus and tropical fruit flavours. Very bitter finish with woody hints of alcohol and light crystal malt chewiness. Suprisingly did not leave any lace on my glass.
beerguy101 (3419), Newark, California, USA Jul 11, 2008 This Imperial IPA pours a medium orange gold color from a 22oz bottle. Once a major foam over problem was dealt with the beer settles down to have a medium sized white foamy head with nice retention. The aroma is fruity and sweet with lots of grapefruity and piney hops. A medium bodied Imperial IPA. The malts are caramel and sweet. The hops are piney, grapefruity and citrusy. Nice balance. Very drinkable Imperial IPA. Lively carbonation. Nice balance, there is enough malt sweetness to counter the hop bitterness. Hides the alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is bitter. Hophead22 (78), Redlands, California, USA Jul 8, 2008 22oz. Nice aroma, kind of "green", like grass maybe or a freashly picked leaf. Medium yellow color, nice white head. Big initial hop flavor that sticks to your tongue,( I like it).Pretty good IPA. OldGrowth (1256), Cary, North Carolina, USA Jun 2, 2008 Updated: Jun 9, 2008botte, at carolina crew get together, provided by afatty. Ok aroma, sweet, citrus, orange, a papery streak, hints of toffee. Pale golden orange color, big head and lacing. Bitter flavor, more of a grapefruit/lemon citrus. Lite creamy mouthfeel bitter sweet finish. Eh, didn’t do much to exciteme neither aroma or flavor had a strong point for me, just average ipa. TURDFERGUSON (1000), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Jun 2, 2008 Shared by afatty at the Carolina Crew gathering. Thanks Glenn. Pours a glowing orange amber with a thick white head. Pretty nice fruity, piney, and grassy hop aroma. Flavor is bitter and fruity with a malty, spicy, and slightly bitter finish. Pretty good double ipa, but doesn’t stand out amongst its peers to much. emacgee (946), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA May 26, 2008 Thanks to glenn for sharing at the Carolina Gathering. Pours a copper gold with a thick creamy white. The nose is very fresh, citrusy, very hoppy, extremely fruity and fresh, grapefruit and orange. The flavor is waxy and citrusy, grapefruit peel, ends up being a tad off. The palate is waxy and bitter. Ends up being decent but could have been better.
